This is a nice feature to have - if you are selling domains. Some registrars like Name.com give that option at Name.com while others like Dotster/MyDomain/Domain/Netfirms - this option is at the domain level.

Both NameSilo and NameCheap act as Designated Agent by default, so you don't even have to opt in or out of anything

NameCheap I asked because I was removing privacy before transfer out yesterday:
UNX: the new rule from ICANN is change of registrant imposes 60 day lock IF not explicitly opted out of
NameCheap: As we are a designated agent, you won't have the 60-day lock.
UNX: do you do that automatically for all domains all accounts?
NameCheap: Yes, it is done automatically.

ETA:
Rebel does NOT appear to have any way to disable the 60 day lock, I am transferring names out and don't want to risk testing it! Maybe contacting support they can override it, contact them first to be safe. Please note: Updating Registrant Contact will restrict you from transferring associated domain(s) for next 60 days.

The last domains I bought at Godaddy Closeouts had this option too

Eww godaddy! way overpriced fees.

Are you sure? All closeouts I've bought recently didn't allow me to opt out. It seems like it's "against the grain" for GoDaddy to allow this when they have always religiously locked every domain down tight with any change of registrant.

unregistry lets you opt out of that 60 days lock period as well

But the opt-out is only for WHOIS contact details change, am I right? Not for the 60 day-lock when you register a new domain or transfer it....

Too bad hahaha, I was hoping that maybe that would be the case and the transfer lock was gone....guess Im being too naive. Of course the transfer lock is useful somehow for security purposes but its also a bit of a burden when you want a quick flip...or for example when trying to list a name at Namejet, you can't do it while its locked....

Same here, all of my recent closeout buys have the typical '60 day auction lock'.

Yes, but I should be more clear about this, the option to opt-out from the 60 days lock was offered after changing the contact details, after receiving the confirmation email from Godaddy, I click the link to confirm the changes and the page that loads is where the option to opt out from the 60 days lock appears, I assume this removes the lock entirely althought I haven't tested it or asked Godaddy about it.

This also happened to me yesterday after I changed contact details on one of my GoDaddy names.

Super easy Opt-Out at @AlpNames - same for other registrars that use LogicBoxes control panel - ResellerClub, WhoIs.com, BigRock.IN, etc

Under Manage Contact Details - Sixty Day Lock option OFF is the default so you don't even have to click anything

Dynadot users were opted-out by default as well. Registrants can opt-in should they choose to do so.

Any chance we could get @Joe Styler to clarify GoDaddy's rules on transfer and new registration locks as this seems to be a frequent question, source of confusion and bone of contention especially amongst domainers who may purchase a domain or domains in the aftermarket and wish to sell them as quickly as possible before any renewal fees are due. I'm sure all the answers are on the GD website but it would be helpful if we could get some clarification here as well? Thank you in advance!

OPT-OUT is the default - clear to see check box - works per domain and also available if you do a bulk whois change

To make it easy ( of course there can be alot of differences based on tld etc) let's assume .com with plenty of time before it expires. And this refers only to GoDaddy current policy.

New purchase or transfer in - 60 Day Transfer away lock. Won't be removed
Account push (Change of account/ domain stays in GoDaddy but changed ownership) 60 day lock which can be removed after consideration from a team.
ICANN WHOIS update rule - Change the registrant name on the WHOIS - 60 Day lock not removed.

You can still sell your domain and push it to another GoDaddy account with any of these locks in place. It just cannot leave GoDaddy until the lock expires.

we can't even list it, suppose i bought domain from godaddy, so i cant even list it on namejet or other registrars, is this what ur trying to say.

its making me confuse, which one to believe.

@Umesh1 - the Transfer Lock we are talking about in this thread is the 60 day lock when you chose to transfer your domain from one registrar to another.

The lock that @belmar313 was talking about is the 60 day NEW registration lock, which CANNOT be opted out of.

Does that make more sense? People and companies tend to talk about BOTH as "Transfer Lock" when it really should be made clear the difference between "Transfer Lock" and "New Registration Lock" : smile :
