Breakthrough Energy Ventures is a group of investors who have chosen to work together in a new investment fund that is patient, flexible, and committed to the guiding principles of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition.

What is CCTEI ?

Climate Change Through Energy Innovation
?

Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns
when that change lasts for an extended period of time (i.e., decades to millions of years).

Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions,
or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions (i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events).

Climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes,
variations in solar radiation received by Earth, plate tectonics, and volcanic eruptions.

Certain human activities have also been identified as significant causes of recent climate change, often referred to as global warming.

Scientists actively work to understand past and future climate by using observations and theoretical models.
A climate record extending deep into the Earth's past has been assembled,
and continues to be built up, based on geological evidence from borehole temperature profiles,
cores removed from deep accumulations of ice, floral and faunal records, glacial and periglacial processes,
stable-isotope and other analyses of sediment layers, and records of past sea levels.
More recent data are provided by the instrumental record.

General circulation models, based on the physical sciences, are often used in theoretical approaches to match past climate data,
make future projections, and link causes and effects in climate change.

Global warming is changing our world. It is a global threat with real implications for everyone no matter where you live.

Global warming is caused by a variety of gases and materials in our atmosphere;

including huge amounts of carbon dioxide and methane from human activities such as extracting and burning fossil fuels,

and clearing forests. These gases can trap heat in the atmosphere, causing steadily increasing temperatures.

We need affordable and reliable energy that doesn’t emit greenhouse gas to power the future and to get it,

we need a different model for investing in good ideas and moving them from the lab to the market.

Buildings: How can we eliminate emissions from our homes, offices, hospitals, and schools?
Electricity: How can we deliver reliable, affordable zero-carbon electricity to the world?
Food: How can we feed the planet without contributing to climate change?
Manufacturing: How can we make everything we use without emitting greenhouse gases?
Transportation: How can we get around our communities and the world without emitting carbon?

It is the Mission to all of us

The long time required for technology innovation in the energy area. It likely will be well over decades before we see any large-scale commercial application of the technologies. “Mission Innovation” an initiative to dramatically accelerate public and private global clean energy innovation.
Bill Gates described a host of new tools and approaches to financing that could, with an innovative push, “overcome those barriers to deployment that lie solely with the financing market”. Mission Innovation is a coalition of 20 countries, including the U.K., France, Brazil, China, India, and the U.S., that have committed to doubling their domestic energy research and development efforts over the next five years, and is expected to increase government investments in those 20 nations to $20 billion.
So it's a very big and very interesting deal.

Thanks Mike for Info,

Climate change is becoming a frequently discussed issue within the years that are past, but in the last year there continues to be more and more talk about it.

When it comes to Domaining business, this may open a lot of opportunities in the future. The whole World is involved in Climate Change / Energy Innovation / Global Warming.

What is climate change?
Learn about the causes of climate change and how you can reduce its threat.

ARTICLE
Say Hello to the New Face of Climate Change
Climate change, also called global warming, refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth. An overwhelming scientific consensus maintains that climate change is due primarily to the human use of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air. The gases trap heat within the atmosphere, which can have a range of effects on ecosystems, including rising sea levels, severe weather events, and droughts that render landscapes more susceptible to wildfires.

Is climate change real?
There is broad-based agreement within the scientific community that climate change is real. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration concur that climate change is indeed occurring and is almost certainly due to human activity.

What are the causes of climate change?
The primary cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, which emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—primarily carbon dioxide. Other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation, also contribute to the proliferation of greenhouse gases that cause climate change.

While some quantities of these gases are a naturally occurring and critical part of Earth’s temperature control system, the atmospheric concentration of CO2 did not rise above 300 parts per million between the advent of human civilization roughly 10,000 years ago and 1900. Today it is at about 400 ppm, a level not reached in more than 400,000 years.

Increased burning of fossil fuels contributes to climate change.

What are the effects of climate change?

Even small increases in Earth’s temperature caused by climate change can have severe effects. The earth’s average temperature has gone up 1.4° F over the past century and is expected to rise as much as 11.5° F over the next. That might not seem like a lot, but the average temperature during the last Ice Age was about 4º F lower than it is today.

Rising sea levels due to the melting of the polar ice caps (again, caused by climate change) contribute to greater storm damage; warming ocean temperatures are associated with stronger and more frequent storms; additional rainfall, particularly during severe weather events, leads to flooding and other damage; an increase in the incidence and severity of wildfires threatens habitats, homes, and lives; and heat waves contribute to human deaths and other consequences.
