DOMAIN SALES

Yahoo has already announced that changed company name to Altaba. According to whois information, altaba.com belongs to Yahoo. There is a very interesting explanation on “Altaba” in China, many people interpret "Altaba" as “ Alibaba’s father”. “Al” is short for “ Alibaba”, and “taba” means “his father” in Chinese. Then another interesting thing happened, some related “Alta” domain names were registered yesterday. Like altaba.com.cn, altalaolao.com, altamama.com, altagg.com and others. ( “Laolao” means grandmother).

Chinese Pinyin domain name Jingyu.com was sold for a high six-figure price to an end-user of Jingyu.cn. It’s a website of original novels.

NQ.cn was auctioned for ¥720,000 CNY (approximately $103,597 USD).

Bfq.com was auctioned for ¥243,000 CNY (approximately $34,964 USD).

Jzc.com was auctioned for ¥243,000 CNY (approximately $34,964 USD).

Nzs.com was auctioned for ¥250,000 CNY (approximately $35,971 USD).

Wo.cc was auctioned for ¥180,000 CNY (approximately $25,899 USD).

Fgp.cn was auctioned for ¥36,000 CNY (approximately $5,179 USD).

35585.com was auctioned for ¥13,500 CNY (approximately $1,942 USD).

OTHERS

Cynthia once again these reports that you so kindly post here show , as does @Kassey Lee very recent work, that almost all Chinese companies prefer either .com or .cn . 96% per Kassey. So as an investor trying to put together a portfolio of future pinyin names for end users we must concentrate on .com or .cn Thank you.

It doesn't seem to be a good move imho. It's far to close to alibaba, which is a much better name imho. Am I missing something, does Alibaba own Yahoo?

"Altaba is Finnish for noob domainer" :)

Yeah yeah, a reg fee name becomes uber brandable with lyft from a mega corp. (was it a hand reg?)
Altaba isn't as good as ambien imho.

Time will tell if this rebranding saves the fancy choclate milk company...

This sounds like a merge between the defunct ALTAVISTA and ALIBABA

yahoo's name was not tainted by scrutiny or anything why would they switch their name? Seems like they would keep being called yahoo to me?
