Hello,

I am new to domaining. I want to be successful at domaining, and I know the secret to success, is to model someone else's success, so I'm seeking a successful domainer to be my mentor.

If you are interested in mentoring me, please contact me so we can negotiate an agreement.

Thank you!

..."secret to success, is to model someone else's success"

You should be forewarned that most people lose money domaining the first couple years. As well, typical domain portfolio sales ratio in the industry is only about one percent. For every one hundred domains you acquire, only one will sell in a year. Those new to the industry or who have many domains in non-.COM extensions will do even worse. That one sale has to pay renewals and acquisition costs on the other 99. Yet end users quite often are more and more reluctant to pay up for a domain name. They can just add an extra few characters or another word or hyphens or go with an alternative extension. Be selective in your acquisitions and cautious before spending money on a domain name.

So, would someone very experienced and successful like to partner with me on any of these domains?

My concept is... you tell me what to do with each domain, I do the work, we both profit, and I learn the ropes of how it all works so I can be more independent with my portfolio in the future.

These are terrible stats. I hope you are wrong. Sometimes I see name lists that are crappy, and hopefully what you are saying applies to these lists and people only.
If this was totally true, nobody would buy and sell domains, as there would be no profit in it and too mush headache.

You shouldn't have to pay $500 to be mentored by people who don't even actively domain.

Hi @NiceDayVince and welcome to NP. Wishing you much success. Your enthusiasm is great but first take the time to read and even experiment in small doses. Get your feet wet. Dont dive in too deep yet. Get a feel for things. Ask questions. Good luck

OK HERE IT IS... I'll post the answers to these questions here since this thread is already getting quite a bit of traffic:

What’s your name?
A: Vincent

Where do you live?
A: Washington State

What’s your level of expertise?
novice, intermediate, expert, etc.
A: Novice Domainer.
Expert Wordpress & SEO, although I just got back in the game a year ago.
Already nailing top google positions again! :)

How much experience do you have in the domain industry?
years, experience, etc.
A: Zero years as a domainer. But I have been collecting domains since 1998 so 18 years. And I have a knack for finding good ones.

What would you like to specifically learn first?
how to buy a domain, domain history, best selling strategies, government policies, etc.
A:
1) Best way to monetize each of my existing domains.
2) Best selling strategies.
3) Best buying/holding Strategies.

Are you currently working on any projects or ideas?
A: I am developing USD2D-com : Door to Door Flyer Distribution network. The site networks advertisers with US flyer distributors, designers & printers. I have a book for sale there "Start Your Own Door 2 Door Flyer Distribution Business" which has sold a few copies already. Currently wrapping up on the site content (pod cast, videos, etc.. ) Then I'll continue to develop/manage the site and monetize it. I'm open to selling the whole company if the right offer comes along.

I also intend to develop PunkRockBlog-com which is a way for punk bands to promo their music, merch, and press releases for $5 per submission.

I have lots of concepts buzzing through my head... build 100 adsense sites, put out some mobile apps such as "CAT day planner" (a day planner system I invented). More ideas than I have time for... so I need to narrow it down to pay dirt and focus on hustling. Honestly I'd love to be successful at domaining more than anything because it's just so creative, exciting, and I imagine it's relatively simple once you're on the up and up with all the info. I really think I'm cut out for it, I just never got educated until now.

What are your short-term goals in the next year?
A: Immediately, I need to come up with about $30K. I've thought about liquidating my domain portfolio while I'm building/seo sites for clients. Then I can start over on my domain portfolio after I've learned the ins-n-outs.. But by end of year, I want success in earning a living online while dealing with less people directly. I'll be satisfied if I can earn at least $2000 per month Domaining, and Adsensing, and building passive web site ventures... preferably, membership websites, ebooks, videos, that sort of thing.

What are your long-term goals in the next 5 years?
A: To be earning at least $100,000/yr via passive assets and active domain investment and online ventures. I see myself making millions, I just need the right mentors and to keep learning and working hard.

I'd also like to buy some acres, and develop it permaculture style, and build tiny houses for recreation. Employ people who need an opportunity and therapy to deal with depression. And I also want to share Nonviolent Communication and NLP with people because these are the things that helped cure me from depression so I have a heart for people who are in that place.

What was your first domain you purchased?
A: Bodyboy-com 1999

Why did you start investing in domains? Please tell us the story.
A: I began domaining because I realized it's something I can do from anywhere. Also that I have a real knack and taste for it. Also that it minimizes my need to deal with people/customers/clients directly. And also, I believe I can make millions at it once I've identified a workable strategy.

My story: In 1999 I was 18 years old, I wanted to sell body jewelry but couldn't afford to print catalogs, so I started a website instead and started passing out business cards and printing ads in magazines and trading links. Soon I was top 3 on google. 2000-2005 I was killing it online with BikiniDeals, ProSkateShop and a few others. Ecommerce got really competitive, I was spoiled and lost my motivation, needed fresh air and human interaction, so I gave up online and started doing offline business, (flyer distribution) which eventually lead me back online with USD2D. I became severely depressed for a number of years (honestly lucky to be alive), but I've been cured of all that (thank you Marshall Rosenberg) I'm currently still in poverty situation, barely surviving. Lots of motivation. I have lots of talent, energy, confidence, determination, intelligence, and I have some great domain names to sell or monetize one way or another. Just not sure which route to go with each of them yet.

I need education, a teeny capital (which I'm sure I can generate by selling one or two of my domain names) but more than that, a strategy I can put to work now, to turn my finances around and make myself successful again. So I am seeking a mentor/partner in domaining and internet entrepreneurship. Someone who can look at my list of domains, and my talents, and guide/teach me so we can both profit and succeed together. I discovered the power of team work and the importance of partnerships a couple years back so I'd like to apply that and get this show on the road.

Exactly my thinking! I don't want to move too fast and make mistakes.. I'm in education mode right now, and I could use a mentor to guide me through my first few successes. Any workable strategy would be great to learn. Thanks so much for the kind wishes and please know they are sincerely reciprocated! Success and Peace be with you!

Isn't this the whole purpose of this forum?

To help each other be successful in domaining.

We are all mentors for each other - right??

There are no "secrets".

It is all out there for you to discover if you just look.

That is what I am saying that cake won't come to yourself, You need to go buy the ingredients and cook the recepie for you. by the time you'll be perfect.
Everything is here, we ourselves need to push harder. Every one has their own ways of getting things done.

That is not completely true. People are sharing very useful information either here or on other domain information sources.

Welcome on NP by the way. Don't try to find someone that will guide you in a 1-on-1 context. You will not find that person. Read all you can here, search Google, YouTube, DomainSherpa, etc, etc.

This way you will acquire the necessary tools that will help your creativity and ideas to evolve into something fantastic :)

Great feedback. Thanks! I agree, and I am scouring for info, learning a lot quickly. Thanks NamePros and DomainSherpa!

And thanks all for letting me know that you thought I was asking for "free help", or for someone to "give away" their secrets. LOL! By no means!

I'm looking for a partner. Someone who has identified a specific strategy that works, and would now like to put me to work for them. Teach me the strategy, I work it (with their direct guidance every step of the way), we both share the portfolio and profit together. Nothing out of the ordinary in the business world, just an agreement that we can both mutually benefit from. The agreement will need to be negotiated of course, and made legal, to protect the interests of each party involved.

Tony Robbins & NLP introduced me to the idea of modeling. Find someone who is successful in the way you want to be successful and partner with them, so you can model them and have turn key success. That's what I'm looking to do.

My willingness to cooperate in partnership, and my determination, makes me a very valuable and rare resource to anyone who has a workable strategy, and wants to grow their business.

From what I see around, legal partnerships are not really feasible with domains, because contracts are too hard and expensive to formulate and nearly impossible to enforce. Also, the business models that each investor develops are usually niche-oriented and not very scalable: each additional fisher would increasingly drain the lake. Unofficial joint ventures are not unheard of, but I think they usually involve a skilled web developer and a partner who brings the funds.
