The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I THOUGHT ABOUT registering some .CONDOS domains when they were first released. There were quite a few cities available. My hesitation was the $69-$99 renewals and my familiarity with low portfolio turn, limited aftermarket pricing for the average domainer and my experience with .TV of how expensive greater than $10 renewals are. If I had gone ahead and registered a dozen .condos domains and renewed them through 2016 I would probably be out $2500. True, one sale might get you back to breakeven but the reality is real estate agents are probably the most reluctant group of professionals willing to open their wallets for an aftermarket domain name (even though one real estate sale might pay the cost of the domain).

Baaack in the day, interestingly enough, just a few days before Rick Schwartz even reg'd his first domain, I had this idea to reg domains because I saw potential in this new thing called "the internets".

So I made a list of domains, most notably was this list of roughly 500 available LLL.com as well as some dictionary .coms to reg. So all that was left was to get the Moolahs together: each domain carried a $70 registration fee by Netsol, as you may already know from all the stories on NP.

Anyway, I went on with my day-to-day activities, as anyone of my age would have done at the time, and a few days later, when I had my cash-monies together to reg them, they were all gone! :( I wanted to double check, but then...

I heard a loud noise, which caused me to...

wake up from my dream...

I dropped some names I listed on Sedo, but i did not remove them from sedo. 1 month later one of them got an offer.

So patience is one of the key

My 2016 biggest mistake was not following my guts, over thinking it and let someone backordered HomesPrint.com for less than $100 and sold a month later for $4500

Had a chance to pick LLLL chips for about 150-250 per name in bulk from a leading domain company and I had about $15k to invest as well but I didn't buy those.

It was back in 2015 right before the Chinese boom.

But I did make better and solid investments from the money later on.

Never believed in the Chinese.

I sent an email to all potential end Buyers I could find and misspelled the domain name. I had bought the domain for $2888.

Not buying better names on the aftermarket when I started since I was so pumped about all the good hand reg available. Some of those hand reg were awesome but are no where close to the deals that were available for short and one word .com's back then.

Another one that is probably common amongst us is buying names similar to ones that sold for a good price after seeing them on dnjournal back in the day. Reality is that there is sometimes a worthless name by adding an s or variation and that one sale doesn't always result in a similar name selling for a similar price range.

I have sold lots of premium names at a very less profit , in the beginning, which had potential of giving atleast 400% profit, I sold them about 50% PROFIT.

Had two letter domain in .vc tld
renewed it couple of times. Had left it at multiple marketplace. After long time when I logged in Sedo one of them got offer for 500 and he increased price upto 2500. By that time, I had lost the domain just few days before. After that I try to log in all marketplace at least once a month.

should have been picky instead of swooping. I mean should have registered a few for 5 years instead of a lot for 1 year. lol

I made that mistake @ Flippa couple of years back, when I spent around $300 per listing on multiple domains with no reserve and lost big time. That's when I learned Flippa is not the best place to sell, but it's decent place to buy domains.

On the other hand, I spend $16 per homepage featured listing @ GD Auctions and scored couple of grand per one single listing.

I moved most of my domains out of GD, but lately with all the BS I am experiencing from other registrars I am thinking of going back.

I guess they don't look as bad now as they did compared to other registrars.

Besides, most end users are familiar with them and feel comfortable doing transfers or opening new accounts with them.

This is a big plus.

Biggest mistake, I should have given all my time and resources to domaining back in 2008, but instead concentrated all my efforts on affiliate marketing...I came back to domaining and had to compete for the remaining 'scrap'.
