I accidentally pressed 8 for too long on Namebio and then said "what the heck?" and clicked search.
then found this???????????????

8888888880.com 110 USD 2016-04-14 NameJet
888888888888888888.com 627 USD 2016-01-24 DropCatch

anyone want to give a shot at explaining this?

that's a long ass numeric domain. did it command that price because it's all 8? it was bought at dropcatch. which means someone reg it. didn't renew it. and it went to registrar auction and sold for $627.

best part? it was someone in China who bought it.

that's 18 number 8's!

but as you can see thee other sale is all 8's but ending in 0 for $110. and that one had less characters.

what gives?? is it really all about the # 8 "star power"?

Very simple answer: Yes.

In early 2016 people were still hoping 'CHIPS' were on the menu. '8' being a highly coveted number it looks like someone took a shot.

I think at dropcatch more than a few took a shot at it. I doubt that auction started at $627 bin. maybe $69 starting?

can just imagine how many bids there were to get up to $627?

Homer's logic. Users only have to press 8 once.
