Can anyone please explain to me the point of several of the large domain brokers out there with huge sites filled with domains and they advertise them for upwards of $100,000 each, when they have appraised values , sometimes of $15?

I don't get it.

First of all, why do they purchase worthless names to begin with, and secondly, why do they try to sell them for huge, insane amounts of money?

From a business standpoint, this makes no sense to me, and i'm trying to learn about this industry.
It seems they like to hoard, inflate their own egos as to the worth of their chose names, and then greed is the topping on the cake, because they try to get amounts of cash that are nearly impossible.

My own estimation tells me they are just people who see the public as extremely gullible idiots waiting to be taken advantage of, and it's a numbers game and a sucker is born every minute.

Is this what they are thinking?
Or what?

cause automated appraisal services are junk to begin with.

No, actually i'm talking about names that are crap, and the appraisal tools reflect it accurately.

Short answer would be, everyone tries to hit the jackpot, some in a highly intelligent way, and some in the most idiotic way. So my friend, in the domaining world, you will find them both.

Peace.

The names have more value than what Estibot says, for sure, but they are way way way overpriced.
  1. BraveNewWord.com - $999,888: I know phrases are popular and have sold for mid to high 5 figures before but 1 million???? I need to raise the prices on my phrases then lol
  2. Bangfit.com - $100,000: "BangFit" -This is also the name of a new program created by PornHub that uses 'sexercises' or sexy exercises to build and tone muscle. I think this is where it's value comes from. This one may not be a far reach.
  3. BiblicalConnection.com - $499,888 - This has end user possibility and may even be a good TV show but it is way overpriced. I would pay 4 figures and no more as an end user. Bible Networks or shows don't even use the name of their programs as websites. They have a main name and everything goes under that umbrella.
I think these brokers or big shot domainers own tons of names and make lots of money so they are not too much in reality. Also, they can price high and not care because they are not desperate for sales. Sometimes they end selling a basic handreg or dropped name for big money and we wonder how they do it. I guess they have thousands of bait and eventually someone will bite. I think those names can sell well but the prices are crazy.. even one words etc sell for way less.

the true value in a domain name aside from the monetary value is what value the potential buyer can ad to the domain and the concept they have for that domain and whether the actually can take the vision for that brand concept and make it multi million $ company or brand

lets just say the bangfit.com is worth considerably more to the right entrepreneur

and no i am not a domain broker etc

but using the above example

the two word .com that is almost a household name to some but when it was just say domain name what would it have been worth? as just an undeveloped two word .com ?
$10k? $50k?

had it sold for $5m? as an example it would still be cheap now considering what the website would sell for now

allegedly lol

Shortest answer you'll ever get: If you never ask for it, you will never get it.

Not saying these will sell for six figures... but it surely cuts down on the junk "$15" offers.

BraveNewWord.com is not owned by a broker, it's owned by Mike Mann who probably is just trying to be funny. Are you calling sites like Sedo and Afternic and DomainMart.com brokers ? They are aftermarket sites. Andrew Rosener is a broker.

Estibot valuations mean absolutely nothing to anyone except for entertainment.

I will be Mann has sold many domains for five figures that Estibot says are worth 0.

I do for fun... I put up my price too...Starchitecture.com €388,888 (was €288,888)
Note that Architecture.com was sold $190000 USD in 2003 ($536,000 USD - Estibot value 2016)
Will put up again next month if nothing sold.
Sounds like greedy......lol

Are you suggesting "hype" has more to do with some name values than anything else?
Or the belief system that something is worth x amount will make it so if you believe it long enough and strong enough?

Does not sound the most ethical to me.
Maybe i'll set myself apart by not investing in crap domains and trying to hype nothing into something and i'll sell good value domains for reasonable prices.

His approach is interesting, at least.

Do you know or can you name a few or even a couple domains that had zero value that sold for 5 fugures by Mike?
Much appreciated. Thank you
