Did anyone notice this in the newsletter from David Clements on 30/12/2016?

The big change - I’ve decided to drop the “daily” from the Brannans newsletter. This means I’ll be passing back the TobyClements.com database to Toby. A couple of years ago, I added Toby’s database to my own to keep his newsletter alive and help his company level out. Our efforts have been successful. Toby has a plan in place to relaunch the newsletter and get back to the business of brokering domains with all closings through Escrow.com. (If you have any questions for Toby, you can email him directly at [email protected].)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
David has emailed me a couple times in 2016 basically asking for any submissions I wanna run. Due to stories I read from other domainers about payment issues I didn't respond. My business model since 2003 has been more of buy at $8-$100 and hold for the end user anyway so doubting newsletters are filled with the ultimate end users. If I was looking to dump domains I'd just use namejet etc...

Those newsletters that claim to have been around for since a fabricated-year and therefore you should be fine with them not using Escrow... you know, those deals that go "through their site" with Paypal or wire directly into their bank account...watch out for those ones. One shouldn't even need to insist on Escrow (a legit one like Escrow.com), it should be standard.

There's shady ones out there... some also disappear out of blue... then come back, and this and that... Take note and unsubscribe.

I'll say that people shouldn't sell via Newsletters.

David helped me sell a domain for low 5-figures USD and would surely do business with him in future.

This should have been handled first before even attempting a comeback, you still have people owed money:

"So, to answer your initial question, while not everyone has been fully paid back yet, the vast majority have been made whole. As of today, I have repaid over 80% of my company’s debt. I expect that number to be at 100% by Q2 of this year, and will do everything in my power to make sure that deadline is met."

"This being said, I’m not an untrustworthy person, Andrew, and my primary goal at this time is to rebuild trust in our community."

In line with this “fresh start”, I will be retiring my previous brand, TobyClements.com, and will relaunch the newsletter at DTrader.com. And this time, I’ll have some help. Ammar Kubba, a long-time friend of mine, has agreed to come on as an investor and advisor, providing guidance on the business, marketing, and strategy of DTrader.

Seems like he is trying to go in the right direction.

Didn't see that one. Good point. Maybe they worked something out behind the scenes? I'd say it is a wait and see thing. Seems like he is trying to clean things up.

Agreed. Brokering isn't complicated especially with 3 way Escrow transactions available at Escrow or Payoneer. Buyer pays the sales price, broker sends the seller his proceeds, broker takes the remaining cut. If he owes 20% of the people years later than he obviously stole domainers proceeds for his own debts.

Equivalent of being married 10 years and beating your spouse the last 3 years then having the balls to say but I was good 7 of the 10 years so I was more good than bad and I wanna make things right now. Which translates into I'm back cause I need money. Meanwhile we have no knowledge of the domainers financial status who got robbed of their cash for years. Did they have to eat Instant Lunch Ramen noodles for 6 months? Did some of their bills go unpaid due to getting screwed?

Wanna make things right, get a real job and pay the remaining 20% off or ask one of your domainer buddies that will pat your disgraceful return to the industry on the back to front ya the cash to pay off your remaining debts before you try a relaunch. If they think your 100% top notch now then let their wallets show the confidence they have in ya making a legit return now.

Trust is like virginity, one pric_ and it's gone for good.

What most people here are not mentioning is what Toby did before things Fu*ked up. This guy was selling to endusers if my mind serves me correctly. I maybe wrong but either way, I wish him luck.

If Toby can sell gTLD's like the way he did sell .com's then he be doing the Industry & Domain owners a big favour and get gTLD's in front of the right people. I am sure he has a very good buyers database though the years.

His past sales, (Did a quick search )

Sold:
2011 -
SideEffects.com $100,000
XQ.com $85,000
MutualFunds.org
$15,000

2012 -
BJ.com
$325,000
Frame.com
$148,000
YG.com
$125,000
LEO.com
$120,000

But we all know, the day Toby is selling gTLD's for a recored sale prices..Old Domainer's will forgive & Forget him and use his services again. "Sometimes we have to forgive and forgot and 2nd chances only comes once."

Good Luck Toby hope you get you've sh*t together, look after old clients and move forward. - Jag Singh
