Hi, so I finished reading an article on domain flipping and thought I'd give it a try. I know I probably rushed into this, but it's okay since I'm viewing this as a learning experience.

So what I did was I went on JustDropped.com and found a domain (GanjaHit.com) for $70 and bought that. I'm still waiting for the email, but once that comes in I am going to get someone to design a logo and probably post it on some of those sites that sell the domain for you and take a cut. My question is what is your process on deciding a selling price for domains? I think this domain is worth like $300, is that a fair price?

Thank you in advance

Edit: Before buying, I went on Moz.com and made sure there were no backlinks or a spam score.

Well sounds like you've already answered your question. Being that you've read an article about domaining, you're pretty set. Just kidding.

I would look at actual data to establish a real value for your domain. You might start with similar sales reported on Namebio.com or DNPric.es . Anyway, glad you took action and started domaining!

You will learn alot reading in this forum. I promise you this, a year from now when you look back at what you register today, you'll probably laugh.

Best of luck!

Oh wow, thank you for those links, it gave me a lot of perspective.

Ganjalounge.com is $498.00
Gajainc.com is $2090.00

I think GanjaHit.com can easily be $2000-$5000, or am I overestimating the domain?

And yeah I plan to learn as much as possible! And again, thank you!

I think you are overestimating.

You need to read through this site for a few months before regging any names. Reading a book on domain selling will be very limited, you will gain a lot more knowledge from this site that any book.

Dont look at 2 previous Ganja sales and think yours will sell for that, it doesnt work like that, they got lucky and happened to have the 2 words that someone wanted.

The 2 names you mentioned were registered in 2008 and 2010 and only sold in the last couple of years so the chances are the sellers had to wait between 5-8 years before they sold, so there is a lot of patience involved in domaining.

Domain flipping is not that easy. If it was that easy then I should be a millionaire by now. Learn the basics, have some knowledge and start with a small sale and you will gradually end in big one. If you want 2k-5k then you have to sit back and wait for the buyer.

Wow $2-5K, who is your end user, some unemployed toker who lives at home?

The person who sold you the domain for $70 made all the money this domain is going to make.

I figure that with the legalization of weed in more and more states, a lot of dispensaries will pop up and some may enjoy like the name and be willing to pay some good money for it..

With all the marijuana industry growth, maybe your domain could be GanjahIT.com. All those pot shops have computers I'm sure. :)

By the way, GanjaIT has been regged since 2014.

I've read some posts on people's opinions on pricing on different domains related to weed, and I am sure this domain can sell for $200-400. Definitely not $2000 since it is illegal, but I feel confident in this domain in general.

Ok, who have you identified as your target buyer of this domain, what user is going to pay $xxx, to build it out for what purpose?

I would say a dispensary, but it could also be used in a blog or general website on weed

I would say that you might get a couple hundred from the right end user. You should make some phone calls.

I wouldnt do the logo if it will cost you more money. Leave that to the imagination of the buyer.. You could offer a logo to the buyer as a perk.

Definitely you will need to do some outbound for an end user.

As we always say to newbies, study this forum for a few months before you waste your $.

Learn before you spend.

Being a newbie, first you should read this forum regularly and start by very small investments. After getting enough confidence, you can go for better domains.

luckily you weren't reading an article on how to be a veterinarian and started practicing on your neighbors' dog.

:)

it ain't as simple as reading an article.
especially when anybody can write one, where no history or experience is required in buying or selling domain names.

keep reading and Good Luck! :)

imo...
