domains By This Time Next Year, I Will...

Spaceship Spaceship
I’ve never been one for new years resolutions. In my experience, the idea of deciding to start or stop something specifically because it’s the new year rarely works. Statistics back this up, too. According to a British survey last year, 63% of UK adults failed to keep a New Year's resolution, with 43% of those resolutions not lasting until the end of January.

I do, however, think that the new year is an opportune time to reset business goals to zero and plan for the year ahead. In order to advance our own personal domain portfolios, and our understanding of domains and domain value, it’s a good idea to set goals. These goals can then be reviewed at several points throughout the year to ensure that you’re on track with your original plans.

Here are a few of my own personal goals for 2017 with regards to domaining. I encourage you to comment below with your own goals to ensure that you’re publicly accountable for achieving these aims. It doesn’t matter whether your goal is to sell a domain for $100 or $100,000 – as long as the goals are accomplishable and motivational. Hopefully, this time next year, we will be able to revisit this article and see what we collectively accomplished.

Acquire a One-Word .COM

I have owned plenty of four-letter .COM’s, two-word .COM’s, and brandable names, but I have never owned a one-word .COM. As we’ve seen many times throughout our Domain Data series, one-word .COM’s are desirable by startups and established companies alike. A good one-word .COM is also an asset that is relatively liquid, meaning it could be sold to another investor, should the need arise.

The desire for one-word .COM’s is high amongst investors right now, but I’m hoping that within the next twelve months, the opportunity arises for me to acquire at least one domain in this category. There are steps that I can take to make acquiring a one-word .COM more likely, so I’m hopeful of achieving this goal.

Sell My Speculative Domains

I have several names that were acquired completely out of speculation, which have turned out to be bad investments. These are mostly six-number .COM’s and five-letter .COM’s. At the peak of the Chinese buying spree, many of us got caught up in speculative domain names that have ultimately dropped in value, rapidly. Fortunately, China’s domain investment activities have been profitable for me in terms of domain sales, but I still own several speculative investments.

In an attempt to clean up my portfolio, I’ll look to sell off these remaining domain names within twelve months. I’m in no hurry to sell, but once the market conditions are right, I shall sell off many of my speculative domains.

Speed Up My Email Replies

Those who know me will know that I either respond to emails and messages immediately, or they remain unanswered for many days. I receive hundreds of personal and business messages per day, so sometimes I do forget to respond, which is purely down to my lack of organisation. I plan on improving my organisation when it comes to answering messages promptly.

To help me with this, I’ve started to use an IFTTT (If This Then That) applet, through which I can add time to my calendar to respond to certain emails by just hitting the “star” next to an email in my Gmail inbox.

Sell a Domain for Five Figures

Purposefully, I haven’t sold many domain names in recent months. Thanks to the income I’ve received from brokering several five and six figure sales recently, I’ve had no need to sell. However, I’ve set myself a target for 2017 of selling one of my own domain names for a five figure fee. I think I own a couple of domain names that could help me achieve this goal, so it’s a case of either conducting outbound sales or waiting for the right offer to come to me.

Those are my four goals for 2017. What are yours? Please post your domaining goals below and be accountable for those goals. I hope that this time next year, we shall be able to review this article collectively to see whether 2017 was successful.

Do this, because you and especially her will remember this all your life.

I'm doing my best. Unfortunately I'm loosing my dad this holiday. Words cant express how bad it hurts. I live with a lot of regrets because over the last 10 years I could have done more for my parents to help them and I didn't. I will have to live with this for the rest of my life. All this gave me new perspective and showed me how important family is. I want to make a lot of changes for her and for my self this way at the end of next year I don't have any regrets.

Just found this Newyear resolution posting now. However, my resolutions are to turn ccTLDMarket.com to a selling market where every interested domainer could submit ccTLDs domain for sale.
2. To sell more of my domains this year, sold very few last year.
3. To sell at least, one high valuable domain for five figure and buy more good domains from secondary marketplace.
May God grant my prayers. Amen.

@elevator - you have some nice names there, certainly possible for a five figure sale - good luck!

My 2017: Buy less, sell more
Try not to buy at all until exchange rate lower!

Sell a complete niche portfolio so I can stick to a niche that I understand (kinda lol)

Own 51% minimum of a numerical niche.

Have all my domains at one registrar!

More realistic goals
Stick to a budget.
Register "keeper" domains for more than one year!
Downsize my portfolio.
Make a few sites for my domains

Just want the new year to be more succe$$ful than last year!

Just want to know; of what advantage does it, to have all your domains at one registrar. what about when to cut price for renewals?

Great question!
Personally, I kinda relate it too, having all my "work tools" (hammer, ladders, compresser, etc) in my garage instead of scattered all through the house.

The main registrar that I deal with, I am very familiar with the layout. Some registrars especially the ones that I use rarely, I have to use their FAQ's.

I have a great relationship with support!

Because of the size of my domains, I probably can negotiate better deals for renewal. Pretty sure they rather have my business than their competitors having it.

Easier for me, to keep track of my domains.

Not saying every domainer should do this, it just something that I am comfortable with.
