The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have a good read through the forum , that's what I did, and you will find the answer to many of your questions.
Most are helpful and will answer your questions here if you are not sure on something too!

All the best..

Sign up for Namebio.com reports.
Read everything you can find from the last 2 years. News, blogs, forums etc.
Study the top auction sites, What is listed in the top 100 And What has sold top 100
Avoid- Hyphens, mis-spellings, domains with more than 10 characters including the extension, number/letter mixes.
There are exceptions in the "Avoid". They are just niche areas that require more effort not suitable for a newbie.
Before you buy: Would you develop the domain? Check for all possible TM conflicts. Check search results.
Cost considerations : Reg fee/Auction price + commissions/fees + your time + % profit you want.
Is it worth your time based on comp sales?
Quality will always beat Quantity. You will need a lot of cash and time to play the quantity game.
So start simple. 10 quality domains or less. Plan on a 3+ year learning quest.
Go to NamesCon 2017 Las Vegas. Everyone you would want to meet will be there.
Happy Hunting !

Welcome!

Try to learn from others mistakes..not your own. Read and watch before you start spending.

Best of luck.

Welcome to Namepros, I only reg real product or services domains, that mean something, I suppose if you are more gifted than most domainers you could make up names and sell for a profit, I don't fall in this category, so I just stick with what I know,

Don't give up. I tried domain back in 2010. I had no idea what I was doing. I just back ordered a couple of domains on pool.com without any research.

I can't be your mentor only because I'm a noob myself, but maybe we can help each other not waste money?

Recorded sales is what we are after....

Agree.
The list of recorded sales, investor and end use is growing and they are all over NP too.
It is important to note end users 1)aware 2)inquiring 3)no low ball
Newbie, if a New "G" makes sense to you, and you can imagine a business using it,try it. 10% of your portfolio.
Cheers

Learning from your mistakes is the key. Once you start you will no doubt fail a few times. Just don't let that get to you and keep trying!

+1 I've got over a 100 and haven't sold one.
Good job it's not my full time job !!!
I like the research & listening to the forum.

Seriously I have a domain that I bought years ago with no knowledge of trade marks etc, I telephoned the huge companies legal team to transfer it for free back to them, they weren't interested they thought I was trying to blackmail them.
Couldn't even give it away. :chicken:
