Has it come to this? Domainers versus domainers? Hey I wish I had not missed the boat years ago on a lot of good regs also. Dreams cost nothing. Good for registries people buying all these new extensions. Look how long .info and mobile have been around and they can not touch .com Great to have people think they have won the lottery and keep buying. Hell visit my reseller account and I will sell you a boatload. Of course monster size companies utilize different extensions just to keep some data sorted. Most people will never have to worry about that. Have a look at the domain name root data base and see who owns the extension. Then you can decide if the extension is a good investment. We seen the same hype when .travel first came out as well as .mobi. Godaddy just keeps getting richer.

It takes around 10 years for people to embrace major changes, so I estimate that after 7 years the number of start-ups which use ngtlds will equal com's.

Now you can register 3 words com sau 2 words ngtlds and sell them for $250. Me? I would choose any day a ngtld for this reason.

In 5 years, domainers will register all 2 words ngtlds and sell them for $2000, the same as com. Then, the price will be equal.

Ten years ago I thought .net was a pretty good option. About eight years ago I discovered .tv and was excited about the awesome keywords I could find virtually unchallenged at Godaddy expiring auctions. However .net and .tv domain sales just do not cover renewals. Even before new tlds they were merely a cheap option for developers who did not want to pay for a premium .com. now that there are a thousand .whatever's there is no reason to pay a premium for anything.

Even its 2077 , .com rules :)

.com is the defacto standard for more than 20 years, and will still be in 2017. Exact Match Domains with .com extension will still be strong especially related to service and product.

Every King, Every Product has its days.
As per product life cycle rules, .COM now in last stage:xf.cry: called Saturation and Decline stage.
I m not sure about nTLDs but ccTLDs will definitely rule this world. As most of the "End Users" prefer ccTLD of their own country. IMO :xf.smile:

.com will remain #1.

I just can't see the sustainability in almost every other extension.

Seeing BankLoans.xyz sell for $699 as an example. Those are trillion dollar industry keywords and that's all that name could fetch? Instances like that where a ceiling has been established for outstanding keywords will crush the value of weaker names in the same extension.

Yes, they can be registered for 50 cents, and the odd name will fetch a 1000% ROI, but I for one am happy I haven't saturated my portfolio with .50 cent registrations that I would need to invest significant time and effort just to sell for $xx or $xxx.

Happy New Year from Strategy Naming.
May the future bring Peace and com to all.

Let's take a theoretical city of 100k residents and an average number of residents per housing unit of 2.
There is a need for 50k housing units (condos, homes, apartments) in that city to house all residents.
Let us imagine that in this city there are 2.5 million housing units yielding a 98% vacancy rate.
Of course there are some locations which are more desirable - water views, great schools and nearby parks, upscale shopping, restaurants, and medical facilities. Those are priced higher but given the high vacancy rate, those with a limited housing budget have ample cheap options.

Now a group of developers decide they want to build another 10 million housing units on the outskirts of this city with 100k residents which already has 50 times more housing capacity than it really needs. These new locations will be a longer commute to work, are further from shopping and parks and restaurants. Yet the developers in some cases have priced their units higher than some of the more desirable existing locations.

What will happen?

A find the title a bit misleading. Of course .com will stay the king for long (probably forever). But from a domainer's point of view the question is : what is the expected ROI and risk of .com compared to other TLDs? Right? Which is a completely different question in my opinion.

I voted yes. Overall - yes. Which is not to say that other extensions are not worth investing in. On the contrary, many good opportunities and easy money to be made on alternative gTLD's. Ditto re good old .NET's and .ORG's. While HugeDomains' focus is still exclusively on .COM's :xf.wink:

For 2017, absolutely .com will remain King. Will take a while, if at all to overcome .com after all the years being engraved in the minds of consumers. Definitely some great gtld choices though now. Will be interesting to see how things play out over time! :) Voted yes.
