Some say .COM is still the King.
Other say it's dead or dying, yet weekly sales show most sales are still .com.

With all the new gTLD's that have been created lately along with all the other existing extensions what percentage would you say .COM is in your domain portfolio?

Please cast your Vote above so we can get an idea where .COM stands these days.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
99% of my portfolio is .com. The only reason it's not 100% is because I couldn't afford DomainMarket.com so I went with .io. :D

It seems as though all the people promoting new extensions, and saying how great they are, and saying how .com's are dying, ect ect ect are all people that PROFIT for the sales of new extensions. .COM is and always will be the King when it comes to a domain name. With that being said, new extensions do afford companies such as myself to purchase a great keyword domain name, but it's not their first choice. First choice will always be .com. Anyone that says different gets paid (or hopes to get paid) if a new extension is registered or sold.

I have about 90 percent .com. Weekly sales are mainly .com because people can register better names, that are easier to remember in new extensions. Compare the number of sales to new domains registered and you'll see the true picture.

99%.

The registries have mostly taken the place of domainers in the nGTLD space (reserved names, premium pricing, etc.).

I used to use ChrisScottRice.com but now use ChrisRice.xyz.

It is kind of like if you switched from BillyWagnerJr.com to BillyWagner.xyz (it's available).

People talk about losing traffic to .com's but what about losing traffic to shorter .com's than the one you have?

I don't doubt your expertise though.

.XYZ is just my preference since I want all of my websites to be uniform and some of them were already registered and owned in .com. But I purchase the .COMs when I can and forward them to their equivalent .XYZ.

are we talking percentage of domains owned or percentage of dollars spent?
because number of domains is a useless metric, imho
