Neustar owns the .Co registry under an agreement with the government of Colombia, owns the .biz Top Level Domain and operates .Us under an agreement with the United States government.

They were acquired by a private investment group led by Golden Gate Capital for $2.9 billion including debt.

Under the terms of the agreement, which was unanimously approved by Neustar’s Board of Directors, Neustar’s shareholders will receive $33.50 per share in cash.

This represents a premium of 45% to Neustar’s closing stock price on November 11, 2016.

It might be good for .US in the long-run. But again, maybe not. Someone might launch .USA.

That's a pretty good price for 3 not-so-good registries.

I think this makes the $109 million they paid to acquire .co in March 2014 a steal. (Even though Overstock.com's re-branding to O.co was a miserable failure)

I was just thinking the same thing about Neustar's acquisition of .co. But we don't have any idea how this money was split between their different profit (or loss) centers. So it's probably not doing them justice to speculate on this.
