Hey,

Like the title says, is it possible to buy a good name and instantly sell it for some profit? Or is this a dream i'm trying to chase, and is age really important in the domain bussines?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

That's the business model for quite a few domainers.

Thanks for the replies. What would be a good site to sell those type of domains on?

You can check out other domain name, web hosting forums that have a market place for sale of domain names.

But no need to hand reg. You can pick up some great dropped names for around $20 and achieve similar success.

That's how I earned most of my money from domaining. I flipped all those domains strictly on Namepros. Sedo, GD, afternic, etc are not marketplaces to flip domains, they're good if you're ready to wait for a few months or years. Here in NP, there are a lot of people who'll pay you a bit more than reg fee for new regs if they're good.

All true, but also depends on the timeframe of "Flip"
Within a year it's always a flip for me

For me a domain flip, is for a domain that you already have a plan for how much it'll sell for and in what time frame +/-, before you reg it. If you put it on marketplaces like sedo, you might sell it within a year, it's not impossible, but it's about luck, it could take you 5 years to sell it there, you have almost no idea when it'll sell there. When I reg 10 names and put them on NP for a specific price, I already have an idea since the beginning how much of them I'll sell within a week. When I put 10 names on sedo, I have no idea when I'll sell them.

Not a flipper myself, prefer end user sales. I'd rather hold for the long term rather than some quick/fast cash.

Although it's done quite often, just not my business direction.

With that being said some domain investors do see long term value and will pay a reasonable price if you're willing to sell.

Yes, for a while it was a thing to tell newbies that hand regs are worthless and you should stay away from them.

That is a myth.

Many of us here at NP flip new hand regs all the time.

But!! - finding a really valuable name to hand reg and flip is pretty hard to do now.

To me a flip is the time frame and not the buyer. You could quite simply sell a name at market value within a year (that's my time frame) to an end user or flip wholesale to the industry within a year.

For me selling a domain within days, a week, or within a month is a flip; nothing else.

Anything under $500 profit is negligible.

So if you buy a domain for $8 and sell it for $100 here at NP you might be very excited, but an ant just broke wind somewhere and I didn't hear about that either.

buying a "good name", is the hard part of the equation

and if you don't learn how to do that first, then you may be, just chasing a dream...

while your money flows into somebody's "profit stream".

:)

Good Luck!

imo...

So, flipping is a business model that works for a domainer with limited funds like me.
It maybe temporary until the accumulated profit is used to buy a good domain name for sale to end user after waited for long time..
So the phase here is just like from flipper to investor...
The hardest part is to find the good liquid handregged domains that still available...

May I ask about how was the process until you come up with the idea of that name?
It will give us newbie here a richly informative info..

Dropcatching services who cost around $20 rarely successfull to catch a good name. Even the catch was success, it will go to public auction due to it has more than 1 bid and the price will go high again...

I have over 100 5L names. Majority have been hand registered and are now listed on Brandbucket for around $2000. I spend many hours researching names that have potential to sell. My specialty is picking up great 5 L names.

There are heaps available on godaddy which have expired. Today I bought UpZag.com for $12. This name is probably worth around $4K to the right buyer. However need to be patient and the sale will come.

Where do you get the list from? I know expireddomains.net is a good one. Right now this site is so useful to me as I can filter the pattern for the domain which useful for 5L or 6L brandable domain. I learn the list from brandbucket accepted names first and then I make a list of some of the pattern that could be accept by them. May you share your own way to pick that 5L names?

Do you have other useful site as recommendation?

Is it from GoDaddy closeout or expired auction?

Yes GD closeout auctions and dynadot auctions.
