Hi, I'm new to the subject of domains so need some help understanding.

I had a dot net domain but it expired. The redemption fee was twice as much as using snapnames so I registered with snapnames to drop catch it. I was successful and the name was grabbed into an Enom account. I could log into enom and see my domain. When I checked the whos it was showing as domain privacy with enom registered for 12 months from the catch date. I assumed the domain would be safe for 12 months

I was unable to access my online accounts for some months. I just logged into my enom account and the domain is not there. The whois still shows the same info as when the domain was catched.

I checked my email and there was a message from enom saying that 'DNS hosting' would expire if I did not respond.

What has happened to my domain?
What is the difference between DNS hosting and registration?
Who owns my domain now?
How do I recover my name?

Sorry, I am a novice. I have gone though my emails and there was some stuff from Network Solutions. I followed the instructions and it set up an account on networksolutions.com. The domain is showing there with my details but the whois is showing still ENOM privacy protection details.

So, why do I have 2 accounts? One with Enon the other with NS?

The dropcatch services are wonky and your name can end up at multiple end registrars (see quote below)

As long as you have access and control of your domain now, you can chose to move it to the registrar of your choice. I can recommend different companies depending on your situation. Likely NameSilo would be a good match for you. There can be a bit of hassle getting out of NetSol, there's threads to help with that too.

Do NOT change the whois until you check back here, they just updated rules and if you change it might lock your name.

What is the expiry date of the domain in question?
How many domains do you own total?
Is whois privacy important to you?

What is the integration between SnapNames and NameJet?
SnapNames will now be offering its drop-catching power to NameJet by partnering up on The Drop. SnapNames will be going after Pending Delete names that have been ordered on NameJet.com
Who is NameJet?
NameJet is an aftermarket domain name company that specializes in public auctions and exclusive expired inventory. They are a joint venture between eNom, Inc., a subsidiary of Rightside, and Network Solutions, LLC, a subsidiary Web.com. NameJet has been in the domain name industry since 2007.

Thanks for the answer. When I saw it was missing from ENOM I sent a message with saying the name and asking where it has gone. Was that unwise?

The name is a dot net and expires July 2017. It drop catched in july 2016

So, my NS account has my correct details and shows me as the owner. The whois is showing ENOM privacy. An account was automatically made at both sites but I had to fill in some forms to complete the account reg with NS today.
There were emails from Enom warning about DNS hosting expiry that I missed and emails from NS about DNS changes. When I confirmed my account with NS I got an email saying they changed the DNS again.

I have only about 10 names and use LCN.com. LCN don't have scammy policies like auctioning off expired names, etc but the renewal fees are almost $25 per year! Is there another small registrar that is cheap? I have seen namecheap, internetbs and namesilo recommended but I feel that the policy of auctioning expired names is disloyal to their registrant customers so it worries me that I might make a mistake and lose domains.

I would like to move the name away from NS and at some point I would like to use a cheaper registrar for my other names. So, it looks like a good time as any to move them all. I always get whois privacy.

Thanks for helping

Enom support is dreadfully slow, you can just update your ticket or ignore it, won't matter the name is at NetSol. Good that you have months to transfer, then you won't be rushed.

Best choice for you is Namesilo. Around $10/year includes free privacy forever They do have an auction, if you get expired, but you can renew at anytime up until the deadline for normal price and you don't lose your domain. https://www.namesilo.com/Support/Expiration-Process

Search here for the threads about moving away from NetSol. I'll dig it up later if ya can't find it.

Hi fbchoc. I'm one of the marketing drones over at LCN, and I just wanted to pop in and confirm our reg/renewal prices for you. gTLD (COM, ORG, NET, BIZ) prices are as follows...

1 year: £9.95 / $12.39
2 years: £18.95 / $23.59

Full details of our domain reg and renewal prices (always the same!) can be found here: lcn.com/domain-names/pricing

Just shout if you have any questions. Thanks!
