The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I think BIN produces more sales than make offer on most marketplaces.

Anyone have data to back their claims up?

The whole Afternic is so ridiculously buggy - what is Godaddy doing with all the money they get from commissions / expired auctions? Because it's clearly not reinvested in their outdated (and barely working) platform.
I'll second that!
@Joe Styler - While fast transfer/premium network syndication, along with Afternic’s team of brokers, deliver great sales results compared with other marketplaces, the Afternic platform itself is incredibly slow, buggy and outdated. There are no portfolio management tools, no domain sorting function, and bulk editing functionality is extremely limited, so any changes to domain prices usually have to be made one by one.

Will Afternic see a major platform functionality update, perhaps together with a design overhaul, in 2017?

You mean Goddady is about to purchased "NameCons" for $1.79B" and they couldn't even fix minor issues :hilarious:

NamesCon isn't be bought for $1.79b. The company that owns NamesCon is being bought for that.

That's like McDonald's being bought out and then you saying someone paid $100b for a hamburger.

There is surely more work to be done on Afternic but there is a way to make bulk edits on names you have listed. We also have a few people hires on the Afternic side to help with large portfolio management. If anyone has a lot of names listed on AN or wants to list a lot pm me and I will give you the email address of someone to help you.

As far as making bulk edits. You can do that with a spreadsheet which is available to anyone in the "add domains" section of your Afternic account on the right hand side of the page.
You can download a list of all your names, prices etc and then edit that and re-upload the edits. Note that there is a checkbox you can check when uploading that says "reconcile my listings" this replaces every listing in your account with the new list. It also treats them all as new listings which will mean you need to opt back into fast transfer at your registrar.

If you do not click this box on uploading it will only update the things you changed/added to the spreadsheet and not change anything in the account that is not changed on the spreadsheet.

It is pretty straightforward and there is a help section that explains it on the pop out that comes up when you go to the excel list section. I'll post full instructions in the thread as well in case you need them.

No idea what we're talking about... back to the topic.
OMG; did you just made that anology? Using that analogy you made McDonald hamburger; apply that scenario to the NameCons.

Who bought the Hamburger? :cautious:

The bulk upload template is the format that Afternic uses to upload new domains and prices to seller's accounts. This feature is available through Afternic.com in every seller's account on the Add Domains page and its also how we upload domains through our back end for listing on our platform.
When sellers have new domains or prices that they want to upload, we are now asking them to put these domains and prices into our bulk upload template. It may appear complicated, but the only columns that must be filled out are the Name, Minimum Offer, Buy Now, and Listing Status columns.
The Name column is where you would copy and paste in the domains you want to list in the account. The Minimum Offer column is where you enter in the lowest offer you would like to allow buyers to place for your domains. The Minimum Offer price is not a binding price and it is not a reflection of what you would accept for the domain, it is just the lowest offer you would like them to be able to place for the domain. The Buy Now column is the price you would ideally like to receive for the domain and the price the name will sell at if someone chooses to Buy it Now.
The Listing Status column tells us which Promotion level you want the domain listed for sale on. Put a "3" in this column if you want the domain on the Premium Promotion level. Put a "2" if you want the domain listed on the Network Promotion level. Premium Promotion names need a Buy it Now price and will be eligible for listing in the full Afternic Network. Network promotion names do not have to have a Buy Now Price but receive less distribution as some partners want a priced name only.
These are the only required columns. You can leave all of the other columns blank. Please fill out the file, and attach it to your reply.
Once you are finished you can go to 'Add Domains' section and upload it through your account.
Please follow the instructions below to add the bulk upload:
1. Log in to your Afternic account
2. Click on 'Portfolio' on the left hand side
3.Click 'Add Domains'
4. Click the green 'Upload Spreadsheet'
***If you click on the reconcile option, it will remove your current portfolio and replace with the uploaded one.

That means you priced it higher than they wanted to pay more than likely. Last 2 of 3 I priced were sold immediately.

I think what he is saying is that they "bought McDonalds Corp." and it comes with "the hamburger."

Probably both. They haven't divulged that information AFAIK so I'd only be speculating.
We have divulged it. It is an in house name used to refer to any sale that happens on the wider network, meaning not at Afternic.com but through one of the partners such as Tucows, Web, GoDaddy, etc.

What's the price range you used?

I price based on what i think a name is worth..I may start pricing lower though to see. I'm also thinking of using the buy now option only too.

Well these names I sold were not million dollar homeruns so I priced them a little under $300 to sell faster.

I have this exact issue with Uniregistry.

On Afternic, I have nothing there. I cant stand such system really.

So GoDaddy is not planning to make any significant UI functionality or design updates to the Afternic platform in 2017?

We did a youtube video on Afternic sales best practices that is still accurate and shares some of the stats on using the best practices,

I can't really say what we are planning for next year. I'd be in trouble with the government :) But we are always working on improvements to our platforms. So it wouldnt be surprising if we made updates that would help bulk users who want to buy and sell names in general as that is what we have a history of doing.

Must have missed it. Thanks for the info.

Is there anything you guys can do about the afternic site constantly logging you out? Surely this must be a simple fix.

I spend ages pricing up a list of domains, click on save changes, then it says I've been logged out and I have to start all over again.

I have sold several names at Afternic this year, though I only have about 15% of my domains listed there.
2 actually sold via Afternic broker contact and were not even listed there.

If you are not getting any sales the main reasons are probably -

1.) Lack of quality. There are no potential buyers.
2.) Price. There might be a potential buyer, but the domain is priced too high.
3.) Small sample size. Even if you have good domains at the right price they can be slow to sell.
Unless you own many domains the odds of a sale are low.

Yeah that happens to me as well. Then I get an error saying I need to do something to fix my account. I have to go into the cookies and delete Afternic off the list to make it let me login again. So what I have to do now is keep clicking around to keep myself logged in or logout until I finish my spreadsheet.
