Do you mean Europe or the EU?

Don't forget that Russia is a European country.

I mean mainly the .eu domain that was launched in 2005 or something. Not so popular yet, I think its like the 5th most used domain in EU only. You think they will be worth any in the future?

I should keep out of this. I'm relieved that Brexit is going to happen, and Quitaly will probably be next. I think that anyone who supports the EU is treasonous, and should have more respect and ambition for their country. After the treatment the EU gave to Greece, I hope that it will disintegrate, and all its supporters will lose their deposits.

I did start a thread about this a while ago, but it didn't get many replies. I must apologise for turning this into a political thread, and to answer the OP.

If Eurid can switch the emphasis away from the European Union, and towards the continent of Europe, then they may have a future. If they stay with the EU, then the TLD will probably die with the disintegrated union.

Not too fond of .eu domains.
There is a market for stong (mostly single word) domains. German would probably be the language to go with, although I also see some stong dutch / polish and occasional english single word .eu domains being caught by different dropcatchers.

Did sell two german .eu's like Binäre-Optionen (binary options) some time ago and had some bids on domains like Ultrabook.eu and BinaireOpties.eu (Dutch for binary options).

I have some 1 word eu domains like: spare/eu, lawns/eu or tarts/eu , some traffic but not to many offers. In the same time I'm checking every day drops and not even 1 dictionary or some value domain is dropping, even in .co, .me and org you can find better drops....so that should mean that somebody is hunting them or that they don't let them expire.

.eu has never been popular, nor is the EU these days.
Europeans tend to prefer ccTLDs, even if it means buying the ccTLD for every country where your business operates.
I think this TLD is redundant and unnecessary.
For investment purposes I can't recommend .eu.

Even so, if you check the first page at sedo .eu domains, by the numer of bids there are around 100 or so with more than 10 bids and up to 160, names like : outdoor 17bids, owner 16 bids, sexylook 15bids, sandra and upload 14bids, loud 13 bids, callboys and diana 12 bids and others. They are dictionary words, but not the best ones. Mostly, half german, half english and couple of french and spanish.

From user perspective, not domaining:

to me .eu is like .us (with less domain hacks)

Local sites go with their ccTLD`s
EU wide / global sites are mostly in English anyways .. so going with com, net, org

If i got a service and offering it eu wide (with all that mess of tax and shipping and customs and different regulations.. not much that is holding me back from scaling it to global)

Well, the whole point of the Eurocean Union is to take away that mess of tax and shipping and customs and different regulation. So from that perspective it could make sense to use a .eu domain if you are a EU based entity. But EU entities do not need a .eu domain to benefit from the free movement of goods, services and capital between member states of the union. Com, net, org or cctld will do just fine too.

Although I occasionally see companies using .eu domains in the Netherlands, most companies here prefer the .nl ccTLD. For the majority of international operating companies .com is preferred over .eu

Just wanted to add on the subject of harmonisation of intra EU tax, shipping and customs regulations.
