The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
For starters you could do a simple google search with the following:
site:yourdomain.com
or
site:www.yourdomain.com

Does it show up? If so, then at least you know it's not banned in Google. From there, your best bet would be to use Ahrefs and MajesticSEO to analyze the site, incoming links..etc. Throw in a quick web.archive.org lookup so you can see what was previously on there and after doing all of the above you should have an idea if there would be anything which could cause a penalty.

Check for manual penalties in GSC.

Isolate google search traffic in analytics and look for traffic drops.

Usually not a good sign if the site doesn't rank for its name or the home page doesn't show up, though both can have other causes.

No need to use www in a site: search unless you're only checking a subdomain, giving it the domain will return all subdomains too
