We keep the fire burning ❗

Honestly :
Some of the new doesn,t make sense
Some of the new are great and exact match ( .company etc )

.web will be a runner

.com is habit and i feel there will be good sales on some new gTld,s

According to the data and this simple chart:

http://www.registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx

Is there a BIG drop? Coming soon?

Looks like the line continues to go up according to that chart. I imagine it'll be even better in the future once people smarten up, adjust and start rolling with the king. Could be a big drop in new gtlds next Summer, realization setting in etc. Might be a temp hit on .com as well, remember people getting caught up in all that Chinese this and that and buying all kinds of crap, weird combos etc.*** That drop is coming as well. But after that, back to the normal upward trend.

*** as an example, those 5Ls. See them on sale here at NP in bulk for .50 cents each. All that is going to drop.

So you startr a business, and you look for a .com name. You can't find one, so you use one from a fancy new registry. Your business expands, and you notice you are losing traffic to the .com of the same name. You save up your money, and buy the ,com to continue your expansion.

That doesn't sound like a drop to me. :)

If I'll going to start the business using my sex.life domain... I know only one competitor which looks better for me - sex.com, not "sexlife.com".

I like a short one keyword .com but they are cost too much! So...
Where is the solution? :xf.wink:

i think is a good example of wishful thinking. The only domain that is better than sex.life is sex.com?

Where is the solution?

There is no solution. You need to accept that you can not have the best domains because they were taken long time ago.

It looks like the line is beginning to go down. :xf.wink:

Lots of domains were registered last fall, and it seems like that they have already begun to drop...

Some years ago, I lived in a house in a road with the name "Lakeside". Now in the UK most roads and streets end with road, street, close, grove, crescent, avenue or one of a host of alternatives. Any variation from this seems to cause confusion. I often had letters delivered that were addressed to lakeside avenue or lakeside road. In Petersfield, there is a road called the Spain, and there have been cases where letters addressed to residents have been re-routed through Spain ( the country ). All this indicates the potential for confusion in domain names. If one thinks of the extension as a country, then com, net and others are easily recognised, but nobody thinks of insurance or holiday as a country, and these are the ones that I believe are most vulnerable to traffic loss. Extensions like xyz are going to have to struggle to get recognition, but I think they have more chance of gaining acceptance.

Why ❓
Rolling with the King ❓
This is not smart ❗

Clever would be a mix of classic and good new g,s❗

I can afford to buy "sexlife.com" This is not problem at all, but... I don't like it! :xf.smile:

I can't afford to buy sex.com, yes, but this is also no problem! :xf.wink:

Would only increase the value of premium .coms :$::$::$:

I like premium one word .com - no questions! :xf.cool:

They will survive! :xf.smile:

Why is sex .life better than sexlife .com? Because later option has a dot and three letters more?

Remember, it is not what you think or want, it is what end users are buying.

I AM END USER! And I chose www.sex.life

Me too :xf.wink:. But lets be more serious, we are talking of a big majority. It is not a matter of what is better sounding / looking or has a better sense, but that they (end users) simply learnt during this 30 years of Internet that .com exist ant it is used for Internet presence...

I might do not like that kind of attitude, but who cares what i think?

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on new tld registrations and renewals over the last few years. Before the new extensions were launched new domain investors and low-budget developers and small businesses sometimes would opt for .Com or .net domains priced low $xxx as there were few other alternatives. Now there are hundreds of new extensions so yes I have seen a lot of those low $xxx sales disappear. It has been more than a year since my last .net sale. Yet I would prefer .net over any new tld. But if end users are opting for reg fee priced domains over low $xxx priced .net domains what will it take for them to pay a premium for a new extension when there are hundreds of new choices available?

All TLDs will be hit by Chinese drops. @jmcc

One particular example is only a exception. .life registry can't survive with a couple of such examples.

So do you prefer abc.life or abc.com for your ABC company? You may find hundreds of company as "abc" but only few or none as "abclife" .

The problem with gtlds is they fit well to very few examples and this limits their usage and decreases popularity.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons why we will never see broad uptake that we see with ccTLDs or .com.

The best examples that are mentioned are like citi.bank, online.games etc.

How dare saying that nGTLDs are not superior to .com? what they don't mention is that they are far more limited than .com in many cases. A few look good but many are quite horrible. The horrible examples never get mentioned.

Even home.brand is quite horrible and there is nothing gained from it.

Looking good alone doesn't mean much. This is not a beauty contest, it is a popularity contest.

Auto.Loan just sold for $45000 as reported on DNJournal, nice!

Anecdotal successes like these are examples of registry premiums not available to the majority, like me that can not afford to register ngTLDs, but for the minimum.

Sex.life is akin to Auto.Loan , great names , but .Com will not be unseated ever as king.

I still like the city extensions, .London, .Berlin etc.

Prior to the rolling out of the new gTLDs in 2014, I read that a successful formula for using the new gTLDs for registering names with a good chance for resell on the aftermarket is choosing names that fit

What(dot)Where and not What(dot)What, in general.

ie: Mortgage(dot)London or Plumber(dot)Berlin

However these are also limitations inherent.

the highly anticipated .web extension will be interesting to watch.

I wonder if the large list of names to be held back will also demand the ridiculous annual renewals as well.

Who knows...?
