opinion Does selling domain names depend on luck?

Hello guys.
Beside the quality,I think there is some kind of luck in selling domain names.
We can find many domain names with low quality sold for a big amount.
So, the question is:
Does selling domain names depend on luck?
Thanks

I think luck is a small factor but there are other elements that are more important to a domainer's success- understanding what has a chance of selling, investing enough time and effort into domaining, patience, negotiation skills, people skills, good business ethics, dealing with bureaucracy and boring tasks well, the amount of domains you can afford to buy/renew and the list can probably go on and on.

What profit you make in any profession depends on your hard work as well as luck/destiny.

Hard work is like the seed sown into the ground,
Luck/Destiny is like the rains come at the right time to help sprout the seed.

Seeds should always be sown as hard work in anticipation of rain of luck/destiny,
for when it's time to rain and there are no sown seeds, even the luck/destiny itself can't provide any benefit.

Luck is always a factor in sales. Hard work helps to put you into potentially lucky situations though.

NO amount of hard work can lead to wealth; nor working like slave could lead to any profit. But luck and blessing from the Almighty is suppreme means of success that leads to wealth, I mean huge wealth can only be gotten from GOD.

However, knowledge and wisdom are sometimes fruits of hardwork and age. So all thing works for good!

Not in my world! Or I would have to believe that GOD has decided to gift to some of the most horrible people on this planet who abuse, torture, rape, burn, kill and destroy the same Earth we live on and that GOD has created...

Anyway, yes luck plays a role but knowledge, researches, experience overshadow it.

.

Depending on what you regarded as wealth, but all of the above are not wealth but ill wealth that are noticeable by people around them and they are definitly watching from the sidelines. For example: look at what is happening to Adam Dicker; the popular domain name guru. Where is he today, see what is happening with him today! Nemesis must catch up with those who made wealth from ill means.

1% luck
99% domain quality

plus: 1% timing
total: 101%

Sounds like domainer math isn't it ?

lol .. I agree 102%! .. Although a good chunk of the quality factor hinges on luck when you purchase the domain .. because unless it's a hand reg, you'll make much larger profits if you're lucky and most of the potential competition sleeps in on the day the domain went on auction .. or lucky that you were the first to find the domain and BIN! ;)

Anyhow .. yes .. luck is a factor to some degree .. as I mentioned already when you buy the domain .. the luck factor grows as the price of the domain goes up. Because at the end of the day you need to be lucky that your buyer happens upon your site. That being said .. there are probably a million things you can do to minimise the dumb luck factor .. basically work to promote/market your sale .. the harder you work at that .. the lower the luck factor you'll have to depend on.

It could take years before the right end user comes along with the right offer - that's why patience is required.

Luck follows one's short term / long term preparation to have " luck " appear.

After researching , purchasing, and positioning a name to be attractive for it's sale, during the parallel time ( parallel years ) a buyer is now in need of, has the funds for, locates and, likes the price of your name.

Good prep on both sides leads to a bit of domain sales luck.

Imo. Except for liquid domains , other cases have a luck factor , the more you know what you are doing , the smaller it gets , but it never goes away.

for me, it's like a lottery, the more tickets you buy - the more chances you have.

p,s, naming is a drug :)

p.p.s. this is not a business definitely. you cannot plan.

Luck probably does play a role in hand reg quality names because there are hundreds of thousands of other similar quality names you are competing against with similar pricing.

If you are talking about high quality names coupled with great pricing then luck plays absolutely zero role but high quality names coupled with high pricing then luck does play a large role.

It is simple cause and effect.

Register bad domains requires = 99.99999% of luck

Register good domains requires = 1% of luck ( Good domains speak for themselves )

Another thing is register : You need between 50 and 90% of luck
