How many UDRP's does the Mann get in a year?

NameSilo
Watch
Lately I've been posting some of the Mann's sales he reports on LinkedIn. I had no idea the guy owned so many trademark domains and keeps registering them!

Here are just a few he currently owns

googlemicrosoft.com
googleappsdeveloper.com
googlegeneration.com
googleplustools.com
twitterbird.com
twitterland.com
twitterfollowing.com
twitterday.com
facebookforever.com
microsofttech.com
microsoftinstaller.com
ibmemployees.com
microsoftsystems.com
samsungzone.com
youtubecommunity.com
wordpresswebdesigners.com
iphoneheaven.com
iphonecompany.com
iphonepublisher.com
iphonefest.com
ipadgallery.com
sonybluray.com
List courtesy of @Arca

And most recently he publicly boasted that he recently registered GoogleOptimization.com

Wonder how many UDRP's he gets in a year and how does he handle them? Just drop the names? Or fight to keep them?

It would be nice if industry leaders like Mike Mann stop dabbling in TM names. gives the entire industry a bad rap, imho.

I wonder how many Chinese domainers do the same? I've seen plenty in my bs'ing around who.is for TM domains and "just checking" if they are taken when combo'ed with the recent VR trend.

VR+TM.com
TM+VR.com

Many Many such domains are HELD in China.

a country that allows people to sell fake Louis Vuitton's and Nike sneakers and Tiffany Jewelry right in front of Gov buildings and Police Stations with no one ever getting arrested.

how much more for TM domains? lol

How many? apparently not enough.

I'm surprised that big brands like microspft/google/apple/etc haven't sued him into oblivion yet.

Where gTLD's are concerned, UDRP applies irrespective the registrant's domicile. Most of them probably don't realize this and think their domicile will afford protection, hence the free for all ;)

Actually, your information is almost a decade out of date. PRC central and local authorities have been cracking down for years now. Long gone are the days you could buy DVD's with latest blockbusters on any street in China for less than a dollar. Have they done all thay can to combat this? I think not. It's a complex issue, though. They have many conflicts of interest in this area and need to tread very carefully.

you guys don't get it. it's ALL MARKETING. no such thing as BAD PUBLICITY.

don't you see it? it's pretty brilliant. you guys think he is crazy for regging TM domains? you don't think he's made arrangements with these companies? every domain he creates. Gossip. people will mention that blahblah.com is in urdp with some big company. the main main Mike fighting vs. the big corp. win or lose still great viral publicity. what happens in thee end? Backlinks Galore! and most likely in high ranking sites.

the TM holders get the domain. secretly? Mike gets a paycheck and signs an NDA to not talk about sale/

so win win.

there's a saying never trust what people tell you. Trust what they DON'T tell you.

see you can spend the rest of your life asking 400K bloggers and article news sites to give you backlinks. most times you gotta pay.

but what if you can do all that for free?

Enter the URDP news story.

sites will want to talk about you URDP issues. They in turn will mention your "issue" and IT MAKES NEWS. Sells Papers.

So it's all part of the marketing "Beast".

There are such things as NON-Disclosure agreements. yes?

So imagine a DEAL is struck? you have a TMD issue domain. you contact the TMD holder. tell them you want to sell them the domain? They say well we can just sue you for it?

you turn around say. "hey well let's do business and use the obvious TMD issue here. make this story VIRAL and you can PAY me not for the DOMAIN but to create a viral story about how you TOOK this domain back from me FOR FREE. but in actuality you paid for it. and I'll sign a Non-Disclosure agreement to not talk about our DEAL. End result? your company gets a great story how you BEAT a domainer. and now you have great backlinks at some of the highest ranked sites online like news sites FOR FREE. WIN WIN. I'm giving you the domain for free. but you are PAYING ME for $50K worth of 400,000 backlinks on top sites. plus the backlinks will increase the value of your domain purchase x10.

What TMD holder wouldn't want this deal?

Something to think about right?

I think about this all the time over at....wait for it!!!

DNThink.com and ThinkDN.com ;)

It's strange because he's otherwise smart. Also he's Buydomains' founder, a corporation that has always stayed away from TM domains.

This industry can look like it's full of idiots and scammers to those on the outside.

Now, the Mann is not an idiot, but he should try to do better.

It's easy when you have enough money not to care about the reputation of the industry that got you there.

TM holders work hard, all that work makes their TM valuable. No way should you piggyback directly by abusing the mark and making money from it. Why? Because you did sod all to make that value happen.

Sorry I know lots of you will defend him on this, but it is awful behavior and really grates with me.

Is he buying these blatant trademark domains for type in traffic to bring to domainmarket.com?

You'd think losing all those in a UDRP case would get him to refrain from cybersquatting on Facebook's trademark. But instead, he has been busy at work rebuilding his inventory of "facebook" domains:
  • FacebookEspanol.com (registered 13 days ago)
  • FacebookAdverts.com (registered 25 days ago)
  • FacebookCommerce.com (registered 1 month ago)
  • FacebookFamily.com (registered 3 months ago)
  • FacebookFan.com (registered 5 months ago)
  • FacebookStrategy.com (registered 5 months ago)
  • FacebookForever.com (registered 6 months ago)

Very puzzling indeed why he keeps buying these. Beside being liabilities they also offer more ammunition for parties going for UDRP or lawsuit on some domain.

•••
It's also puzzling how many big TM holders have apparently not filed a UDRP against him. For example, Donald Trump is famous for frequently filing UDRPs against domains containing his "trump" mark. But Mike Mann currently cybersquats on a bunch of obviously infringing names, most notably TrumpProperty.com.

Donald Trump related domains owned by Mike Mann:
  • TrumpProperty.com
  • TrumpProducts.com
  • TrumpYoureFired.com
  • TrumpYouAreFired.com
  • TrumpforAmerica.com
  • TrumpUpdates.com

No respect for the guy tbh. Thanks for making this industry look crap. And he knows what he is doing is wrong, but he disrespects the TM holders, knowingly. Awful.

He sold some trademarked names in the past for a very good money so I think that is why he is still trying.

It was years ago so I do not remember these names, especially that those names were not short and I have seen many name since then.
It happened for sure. I am remember this fact well.

Just ask yourself if he could not have any chance of profit why would he register those all names.
If any domain investor register name/s is always about trying to make money, simple as that and no rocket science here.

Really?

It is domainers like this that ruin the industry for the rest of us honest, hard working people.

I think if he points any such TM domains to the trademark holder there's a big chance he won't get the TM holders all "hot and bothered"?

could that be the trick?

but I really don't see why that would be any benefit if I can't make a profit at least in PPC's
