discuss Does anyone sell a lot of geo-targeted+service domains?

For example: AtlantaWatchRepair.com, AtlantaDentures.com (I don't own these).

I've been giving this market a try and haven't had much success with contacting end users.
I only have a couple of these domains so far. Not sure if i'm just wasting my money and time.

Looking at past domain sales most seem to go for $150-$250.
I was hoping to sell at least 1-2 a week. With the right names does that seem realistic?

What I've been thinking is that the majority of these small companies don't see any value in the domains, because they don't have a in-house SEO or web developer to market/develop it.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Good question. I would also like to know.

Yep, I'd like to know how they sell, as well. I was picking up some geo + keyword for the marijuana industry. I'll have to hold a few years for many of my domains, but am hopeful. (I'm hoping my California & Vegas ones pay off after the election...c'mon Cali & Nevada, legalize.)

Hi

if these people/services already have a domain/website, then why do they need another?

and if they do need another, why would they want yours?

and, is the name you're soliciting, better than the one they already have?

if you think it is, then what valid specific benefits can you list, that can be verified?

imo....

Yes I have done(and still do) this. Yes 1-2 a week is a reasonable goal. The best way to achieve success in this is to make sure you know you have a lot of end users to contact before buying the domain, and don't get greedy with price. Most of these companies are not willing to buy for more than a couple hundred or so.

The approach I use for most Geo domains is redirection. Many companies don't want to rebrand so you would give them the pitch of setting this domain name as a redirection and say it could help improve web traffic or visibility, etc.

Include monthly searches for the matching keyword, cpc, etc.

You will receive a lot of rejection or no response at all, you just have to keep pushing to more leads.

I just sold a businessState.com for $1.3k. I had it for about 5 years. That's about 1/2 of what I was asking.

Exactly.

Their marketing agency may even advise against it - a lot of small businesses barely have the resources to effectively maintain and promote one site (or hire someone to do it) more less two.

If the domain actually HAS relevant traffic (not just keyword search volume) or even healthy backlinks, then you can make a good case for the value.

Have you considered making a list of like names, i.e. dentist, legal, from what you have and offering them as a bundle to a design firm that specializes in websites for those service providers?

preselecting.com - check them out.

Response times can be a bit slow at time with regards to getting ur domains approved....

Too bad my potential buyers aren't in business yet.

did not have any success with those
sold only 1 domain for $188 USD

my general strategy now is to keep only domains
that are worth at least $1k USD
unless they are liquid domains

it makes no sense to work to sell a domain for below $200 USD
and keep a lot of them - renewal will eat the profit

always have the buyer in mind
how much can he afford to spend?

they didn't sell any of my domains
and now they charge about $8 USD for "now qestion asked " acceptance

so at least they will make a profit

Thanks for confirming that.
I've seen a lot of courses pushing this strategy and thought I might just be being too pessimistic.
"Flip 2-3 of these domains in your spare time and make $500/week"
Sounds good in theory but doesn't work in the real world.

A specific one comes to mind. "He" also advises that if you cannot make this "easy" method work, you should not be in domaining...uuggghhh..

Would you mind posting a list of your names?

Are these names parked or setup with a landing page?

Are you using email and phone also?

I've had luck selling a name through a companies website designer, they grasped the value immediately. I have another tactic in mind also, if you're interested.
