Had livingcomputer.com for around 12 years with no inquiries. Then sold it last week to the first and only inquiry for $4,000

Patience pays off..

Congratulations. It seems a solid name and I am little surprised to read that you have not received previous inquiries. An impressive purchaser btw.

Congrats Jimmy.

Now it was a good domain and holding good domains definitely pays off someday, holding bad domains thinking that we are being patient and it will pay off someday, will only cause loss of money through renewal fees. I googled "Living Computer" and the first and obvious potential buyer was livingcomputermuseum.org (The domain was registered in 2008). These guys are the buyers. If you would've tried contacting them then it might've resulted in this sale few years ago. Not a big deal for everybody but it does make a difference. I am sure I can find more potential buyers for LivingComputer.com through a little research. Good sale.

Not saying that at the end of the day, the investment didn't pay off , which it clearly did, but I wouldn't wait for so many years if I didn't have any inquiry even

4k for 12 years that's 2.8k assuming that 12 years ago renewal fees where as cheap as they are today though

it's cost less than $120 @ under $10 a year.

i liken a domain name portfolio to a stocks and shares portfolio the same principles apply

they both require initial investment

both are pure guesswork at ghetto start and refined over time

both will have investments in them that were a complete waste of time and money sometimes at least 50% of a portfolio is a waste of time and money which isn't a problem because 20?% will make an ok profit
25% will make a very good profit and 5% of your investment portfolio will browsers millions style profit which outweighs any losses the 50% that lost all their investment portfolio but need at least a 10 year plan to include a recession because there will usually be one during the course of the time you hold your investment portfolio

That is what most domainers are not told. Some of these things are held for years before a sale is made. Great post!

i reckon its a bit like surfing etc even tho i know nothing about surfing lol eg domain names are like cupboards you have tks get on one to surf when on the wave you have to paddle out a fair way and then the wave does the rest the wave being time the most time spent waiting for the biggest wave equates having to ride little waves and paddling out equals amount of renewals and big wave equals big offer
