Hi All,

I am just curious to see what .gdn can offer. I see that a lot of people bought .gdn domains. They have sold almost 280,000 plus in just over 6 months.

Has anyone sold or received any offer on .gdn domains. If yes please share with all of us.

Wow...well I keep a track of new tlds being launched. keep update on Ntlds stats of their progress. I came to know about this a few month (8 to 9 months back) a lot of people here have bought .gdn. stands for global domain name

This is from their website "
.GDN – Global Domain Name
Dot gdn is Global Domain Name. A new generic extension that is for everyone, everywhere & everything. . GDN is the extension if you are a start-up, a small business, or even a professional in the global world and want to “MAKE YOUR PRESENSE GLOBALLY”. If you are an established brand or company with massive world presence, you can have a. gdn to perfect your niche by using it to drive traffic to your .com website, hence global domain name. It has no boundaries, no restriction and therefore no particular category."

Correction: a few beginners which burn their money doing mass-regs, primarily from China...

The new tlds are surviving because of china. 80% of total registrations are from China. I think we cannot deny the fact that China is heavily involved but we need to understand that not only gdn but other extensions and registries are running behind Chinese investors as well. And why not. They just became the Worlds number superpower as per today's news.

I personally have invested in other tlds as well like xyz, club, etc and I think I every tld has its own market. China is actually attracted to gdn ...

Seems like .GDN is actually not mostly powered by China or USA, but by Alpnames 0.7 USD deal..check stats here

Personally I think .GDN might be good investment when you are able to buy very short domain names there (not more then LLL or NNNN) for reasonable price, as these might hold value for Chinese investors.

In regards to Western investors, and thus mostly English keywords, imo this will not become wide spread, as GDN is not commonly established acronym in western word (it is artificially made up meaning, it is not part of common language used among end users). I have 0 .GDN and not planning to change that..

All quite with this extension although it is very young, it's risky for some business to move in the .gdn direction because of it's uncertainty.

@Pierre Barnard well same here. Although I do see good registrations being made. As per namestat top two countries are China and USA. Considering this I hope to see some sales in marketplace so I can play with my gdn domains too. I have around 70 Plus.

The concept of GTLD's was to provide industry specific domain extensions. There are few new generic extensions like .xyz, .online etc. Unfortunately .GDN is a very poor sounding/appealing generic extension.

All of these new gTLDs have a risk factor associated with them, some may stop operating in the future and become abandoned with heavy losses taking for some investors.

.gdn
is no exception but it's early days, it might prove to be a winner yet !

Considering your comments. I think there needs to be a lot of branding done just like xyz. XYZ also has no meaning and is artificially made up. What do you think?

Honestly, I never liked much .xyz (and I also do not invest in it, I guess I have 2 or 3 domains there by accident), and was therefore quite surprised that it actually made it to be successful on several levels. But they invested so much effort and money into branding..what helped them very much too was also google's abc.xyz stuff, and they made tons of these 0.01 promotions..so lot of effort behind that.

Still, yes, I agree XYZ is artificial, and simply I am not sure about how successful it will really be in upcoming years, just because it really lacks some semantic meaning deeply grounded among end users..but this is the same as with .com (which also lacked such meaning at its start): and lot of money and marketing might get end users to appreciate .XYZ if relevant registry will continue the way they started.

Regarding .GDN, I do not see semantic meaning there (deeply grounded among end users) and there is no active marketing at the moment I would really be aware about...
