Hello all,

For several months, I have been recording 6N sales from Asian auctions. I now have enough data (thousands of sales) to offer some perspective on the 6N market and general trends. Because the market is so liquid (and large), I have segmented the data into specific "pattern" types which have a large enough sample size to be meaningful.

Please note that there are other threads for showcasing your domains and discussing 6N in general terms. In this thread, I will highlight and discuss only 6N.coms sold at auction (live bids and confirmed buyers) on Asian platforms. I will use this thread to focus on specific pattern sales with short commentary. Hopefully, this will help buyers and sellers in pricing and bidding.

Please note:

1. I have not captured every sale, but am confident I have recorded "most".

2. I make no warranty as to the accuracy of the final sales price as I am relying on the auction sites and the sales reporting site Chaomi.

3. There is a lot of data and almost impossible to capture all. For perspective, the pattern I will analyze today has almost 80 recorded sales in the last 7 days. How many of this pattern were published on Namebio in the last 7 days? The answer is 0. Feel free to add sales that I may have missed or from lesser known auction sites.

4. Sales are in Chinese yuan (CNY)- Conversion guide (changes daily, so not precise):

2000 CNY- $304
2250 CNY- $342
2500 CNY- $380
2750 CNY- $418
3000 CNY- $456
3500 CNY- $532
4000 CNY- $608

Today's 6N pattern analysis: The interior, non-eight "triple" repeating digit (no 0,4).
Pattern type example: x111xx, xx111x

Summary: Remember, this is one week. There are hundreds of data points for each triple over the last few months. This pattern bottomed in early-mid December at 1400-1600 CNY on low end. The last two weeks show increasing price.

I will analyze the next pattern in a day or two.

The worst 6n are still all getting backordered for $49+. None are available to hand reg, and no matter how ugly the market get's come renewal time when people are selling really cheap, the Chinese are still backordering them. Based on that alone, I think the market is going to pick up quite a bit come early 2017.

I agree to this reasoning. Same is happening to some other domains across the board, you would see domainers suffering to sell them for $5 each and then you find them getting backordered at figures upto $69 sometimes!

Wait a minute. You can't give these names away on NP, Flippa, GD, etc, but someone's paying $49 each for them at NJ? Do you mean the worst of the premiums (no 0,4)? Or the worst of the worst (eg 470204)?

Well.. I've seen this with the 4L .org that are Western Premiums and Chips in teh sametime. things like FGTM.org for example. You wouldnt find them selling for more than $1 per name now or so on NP, but if you try to dropcatch each using Pheenix you will barely get 1 successful at $24,99 and the rest are lost to Snapnames and Namejet at $79 or $69 each! You see the difference? Thats because of the buyer's psychology!

Its analogous to a name that you might not sell here successfully for a $1 in an auction, but if its dropping, domainers can pay a $100 for it. Domainers like to think always they are the ones that FOUND the name and not PAYING other domainers for having found it. Stupid psychology of the entire human beings that based on greed and stupidity :)

Makes me wonder what would happen if someone were to contact the buyers of those names. Would they buy the same names directly from a seller? I wonder..

Unless you need to the money it's stupid to sell 6n worst patterns for a few dollars. Yes, they all get backordered $49+, the worst of the worst, and I am 99% sure, none will become available to hand reg at $9 or so. Regarding contacting from the whois these people who are backordered and try to sell them your worst 6n at $49+ there already paying, I have tried that, 99% Chinese and they never respond.

Just have to share my story of chaomi.cc and how it gathers false data. I bought a 6N chip on Namepros yesterday from a private deal and chaomi monitored the transfer - I guess automatically :) BUT the thing is that the price I paid is higher that the one they stated, have absolutely no idea how theyve determined the price. In addition seeing recent huge jump on patterns and even the ones with 0 and 4s - btw website shortnames is very neat - are selling close to 400 USD with triple beginnings, 680 floor on Chaomi now seems like a joke.

I just saw this sale on DNJournal and I think that this is a huge price even though it is a very good 6N:

118888.com $12,140 SnapNames
I have a similar one ending with 8888.com
But it is a 8N.com

I would rather spend extra and get a 5N than random 6N at this point, rarity contributes to value with numerics

That changes everything, unless the first four numbers are patterned 5566 etc, there are many many 8N out there

There is a decent sign of an upswing soon. I wouldnt rush to take it fore granted though! Yesterday 24,000 6Ns with 0or4 have been sold. This means someone invested $200K to renew these just yesterday! and today around 4K names.
Chips on the other side have picked up decently. Floor now is 860. All that is needed now is seeing the 1,000 mark breached. I believe we can see a 1,300 afterwards, where we can stall for a while. That would be decent for a lot of people including myself :) Thats the $200. But thats still very very far away. The great part is all 6Ns will be either renewed or re-picked up, so sellout is protected a 100%. Maybe the worst combinations can reach $20-30 again soon, which can pump the patterns a lot! The bad thing though is that the pick up is mostly on the floor part, but patterns are still not the best. I can still see a lot of Chip 6Ns with tripple repeaters fetching less than $200. Thats a bit weird, coz there are only 5488 names with tripple repeaters (in the middle, either ABCCCD or ABBBCD). I dont understand how these are not picking up lately like the floor, but lets wait and see!

I was shaky at some phase and felt I might lose a lot of cash here (to be honest), but Im glad things started to pick up. Again, no guarantees, these are just stats! No one knows the future :)

not by 1 yuan! Prices went up from 1 yuan to 58 yuan! which is a great sign that all of these domains are renewed! so the ones that are patterns are still on track to increase in value! I think I talked about this a lot and Im glad I did the right call, I hope everyone did the same :)

Where are you seeing 6N without 0/4 for $1?
I wrote make a dollar, so on top of your reg fee ,if lucky you might make a dollar, you only have to look at the numerics sales section to see that it's a graveyard. Many of last years sellers have disappeared and the ones that remain are living on hope. As for the 7N's ........... oh no!
~
Having said that I have kept a few numerics with good patterns but I am keen on 5N's over anything beyond as they still have a market, and over time they will become scarce. Simply put, if you owned 444000/Com you have a better name than the randoms that do not contain 0 or 4 ......Patterns my friend, patterns
