The domain name Work.Place was sold and the buyer is Facebook that launched today its enterprise-focused messaging and social networking service to market under the name Workplace.

The seller Edward Alfert (@ealfert) has not revealed the sales price but since I had a very small part in the deal I can make an educated guess.

Edward asked for my opinion on what price to quote and also told me that he thought the buyer was Facebook. I gave my opinion but don’t know what happened next and what the negotiations were.

I believe the sales price was at the $50,000-$75,000 range. Probably closer to $50,000.

Heard about this yesterday and sent my congrats to Edward. I'm hoping they will use the domain other than a redirect, looks like the .com is something else.

If used other than a redirect it will only help the new g's!

Don't know the final price but he was smart enough to figure out who the buyer was from what I understand, that's always a good thing. :)

Maybe so, there's always ambulance chasers. If you want to look at the negative side only, so be it. ;)

So a domainer (not a registry) finally made a good gTLD sale to an end user ? I wonder what the net profit is.

I wonder what the net profit is.

I'm still in the red, but getting close. This has not been my only new gTLD sale in the past 2 years.

Congrats to the seller. Even though I don't own any nGTLD domains, it is nice to see domainers who own those do well. :)

I found article mentioning that Facebook left their previous law firm for the law firm that contacted me.

Plus with Facebook registering several "workplace" domains recently, I was 99.99% sure it is Facebook that wanted to buy the Work.Place domain.

So, I negotiated assuming it was Facebook :)

it looks like Facebook forgot to set it as a primary domain.

Congrats Edward :)

I'm hopeful they will utilize the domain and it wasn't just a defensive registration.

Congratulations ealfert, you really deserve it as you have been working hard getting great names from the start.

I saw that you also have other nice sales lately. Big congrats!

We are showing people that our investments was worth it. I have no sales close to 50,000, but at least more than fifty smaller sales.

It is classified as a premium and yearly renewal is $42.

I submitted an EAP pre-order at Godaddy and someone else did too. So the domain went to auction and I won the auction for $164.

great sale, if fb launch work.place to be primary domain for its product, it will be a small success for new gtlds(just as google use abc.xyz)
