That is the question..
Mostly the same reason businesses do, the same reason bloggers do, the same reason everyone does.
They don't understand or don't care or you're wrong..
Two secondary reason:
- Quite often it doesn't even matter what your domain is. Vanity isn't as important as function.
- Some domainers also have the annoying habit of registering everything they can on sub dollar gamble. I blame 1&1, Netfirms, Dotster... domains should be ~$15 always just to dissuade stupid.
If you're talking real real lower barrel raindeerpoop.com? That, I presume starts as a joke that goes too far.
I don't think increasing the reg price will help much.. people are registering a ton of crappy .io's nowadays which cost $33 each.
And the netfirms/dotster sales started just a few months ago, people have been registering crappy domains since 1990's and still register awful domains at GoDaddy and other registrars.
The reason why people register crap domains is that they don't understand what a good domain is. imo
crapdomain.com - owner from CanadaMost reason is lack of english language, imo
I am sure you own better .io's then nipples.io, implantable.io, Zipfile.io, Seosubmit.io and thousands of others.
Not that many good domains left to register.
She hit that one on the spot.Domaining can be a risky business People would have thought 6 number .coms are crap some years ago but now they think they are valuable the same way the domainer is thinking about the future trends or just have something in mind for them the rest some can be a little.. well.. stupid about it
Two points to make here, while you may not agree with the first being that it's a crappy name because an implantable company will most likely be a brandable name and owning the generic is quite moot here. The second point is a counter to you holding for 1 year, that's not a gamble, or even a wise decision; most names I keep for a minimum of 3 years.future, basically and i reg. names based on the info i got now (it may be wrong, but that's all i got) and if in a year it doesn't fly i drop the name.
Please off me when the human race finds it acceptable to send children this age to "VR" preschools / playschools so they learn how to not interact with society. Terrible concept; crap domain. So I saw value in taking VRPlayschool.com because I believe the value of that word is worth more than the reg fee.

Hey, not here to argue the value of the domain. I'd just like to reinforce my 2nd point of it being a bet and putting money on the table as you so put. One years registration is not a bet (or rather, investment).Thats what I said about mobile phones and children years ago, now I know kids that are walking around with iphones yet they cant even hold it with one hand.
And I see this as a long term value bet. Its my bet to make and I put the money on the table.
