Hello guys,
I know many of the newbies here will have this doubt. Is there any formula or guideline that can help me decide how much i should expect for my domain ?
Now supposed I have two domains
1. hurrt.com which has 246,000 avg monthly searches and CPC of $1.94
2. StartupsChicago.com which has avg monthly searches of 880 and CPC of $10.76

Is there a formula which includes the monthly searches, CPC and other factors or are they independent ? By independent I mean is it luck which will decide the value ?

I'm pretty sure all professional domainers out here must be thinking the value they should expect from a domain before actually purchasing one.

TIA

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There's no magic formula. Automated appraisals are not fully reliable, although they may include useful data. The ability to appreciate the value of a domain name is developed after some time of learning what is appealing to buyers.

No single isolated factor can determine value. So, high CPC by itself does not necessarily indicate the domain is good. The same could be said about other factors, such as high search volume.

The best approach is to see if the exact phrase or set of words on the domain are what a good number of business owners would like for their business. Check if there is a substantial number of Google results for what the domain describes.

Check if there have been sales of names that are undoubtedly similar to the ones you are analyzing.

Now, brandables are a completely different beast. They are often evaluated by a kind of gut feeling and other factors.

If you are looking for a quick and automated evaluation, you can use tools such as valuate.com or estibot.com, just be aware that those estimates are very rough estimates and do not guarantee any set value. A domain, like any product, is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Often a good way to get a better idea of that number is to ask real people either on NP or sites like Flippa have areas where you can submit names for community appraisals.

you are exactly right, frostify, we can all sit on our domains til the stars fall from the sky but we want to sell them also so we have to weigh more than just the algorithmic value it has. best of luck.

The only way to get an accurate valuation is to put it up for sale and see what people offer for it.

You can look at comparable sales by browsing namebio and other sites like flippa and check past sales, but sometimes there's more to a domain than just the keyword(s) contained in its name.

Auto valuators are simply crap. You could pay money for a professional evaluation, but the person valuing your domain is not buying it and has no vested interest in it other than getting paid to do the same comparisons which you could easily do yourself, and stamp a ballpark figure on it.

Essentially, it's worth exactly the highest amount someone is willing to pay for it and not a penny less.

hurrt.com has a monthly search of 246,000 spelled the WRONG way?

I show 40K in the US (English) For the keyword, NO extension! One of the things I learned in this business is IF it's too good to be true, you're probably doing it wrong. I learned that with hand regging domains...IF some FAB domain in .com is available, I probably spelled it wrong. Newbies are just not smarter than the old timers. ( Unfortunately)

Yes agree with you. But it's a learning curve.

Yes.
It was set at world. US has 40,500 searches. Sorry for the confusion.

in some cases, all can not be predicted

This is a rather stupid question and if you have to ask it, one has to wonder if you are in the right business.

There is a rough value used for established websites, two times annual profit, which has proved true in my two biggest site sales.
