Hey nP members,

What do you think which TLD will stay on top (in amount of registrations) before this year (2016) ends:

.top or .xyz - what do you think, which one will it be?

The current status: https://namestat.org/

Share your personal assessment here.
Thank you and all the best with your domains.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Problem is site owners are starting to block ngtlds which generate a lot of spam.

.top SALES
There are a plenty of great .top sales in the past - you can check them out here:

Hmm but these are all ultimate premium names and also seem quite old.

I have registered more than few .top domains, can you tell
where are the recent sales of .top domains ?

and which is the best place to sell .top domains?

@Hopelessly Lost

Domaining can be hard work.
Don't expect much.
Contact and try to convince shop owners / possible endusers in the best way (tel. / email / personly) whenever you find time but stop domaining before you get frustrated (because if this is the case, it's not the right business for you).
Don't focus to much on sales from others, (try to) make your owwwn sales, find your wayyy to show the world your domains ;)

Good luck.

Q 1/2 I have registered more than few .top domains, can you tell

A 1/2 Seems they are private - not all sales are made public.

Q 2/2 And which is the best place to sell .top domains?
A 2/2 The Internet*

*no matter where. For example, simply make a simple landingpage / offerpage of your domains!
Or @ SEDO
Or @ FLIPPA
Or @ OTHER DOMAIN TRADING PLATFORMS
Or all together.

SPOILER The real 'work' is the (of course passive) waiting for (a) sale/s ;)

The famous 'btw' haha, anyway - seems this was a first step to show your .top domains.
Please note that this thread is not really a .top showcase.

But you are welcome to showcase your .top domains here:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/showcase-your-top-domains-here.861856/page-38

BTW
problems.top is a good one, it implicates 'problem: stop'.
You could / should contact psychologists or life consultants etc. and offer it to them as the perfect domain for their branche.
Just (try to) convince them!
Explain it to them!
Do it!
Maaake your saaale!!!

From "domainpunch delete", we can see .top registry is working on serverholding the bad domains now. So we may not see the number grow much, maybe even decrease; But I like it that they are trying to make the TLD healthier.

Serverholding is not needed at all if TLD is priced properly... minimum $5 - and TLD will be healthy always.

Have a point, but when you look at .com...

Tons of .com were regged with GoDaddy for $1.xx-3.xx
+ at domain.com and their satellites...

So .com is ~10 times safer than .top

Ok, let me explain this spam problem:

That's a 'natural problem'* / negative 'side effect'* - it just shows that (unfortunately) also spammers love this TLD - but probably exact this (current) problem will
make it to the safest TLD in future (if the registry will manage it well and I presume they will).

*TLDs which are imply big worth, are, unfortunately, like 'magnets' for spammers - that's why I see it as a 'natural problem' / negative 'side effect'. And there is no other TLD which could imply a higher worth because .top means top.
Unfortunately also for spammers... ...but they will not destroy it - they will just 'destroy themself' with their activities ;)

At a guess, it may be the natural deletion process at work. In most of the main gTLDs, the renewal rates for freebies can be as low as 5% so a lot of these dropping domains could be the other 95% or so of a freebie promotion. The .TOP gTLD is not the only new gTLD with a quality problem.

It would increase the startup cost for a low quality or affiliate website. The freebie promoitions have damaged the quality of some of these new gTLDs because they have created zero-cost disposable domains for spammers and others. There is probably a link between spam and the cost of a domain name. However the freebie domains also create a content problem for the gTLDs in that many of these freebie domains will drop without ever being developed or have low quality or affiliate sites produced on them in bulk. This is an issue for .TOP, .WIN, .BID, .LOAN, .LINK and .TRADE. It is more apparent because these are relatively new gTLDs and these low quality sites can appear, to end users, to be swamping natural development. In terms of registrations, it seems to be a pissing contest between .XYZ and some of the other new gTLDs as to which of them can give away the most domains. A minimum registration fee could stop a lot of those problems but the registries seem too involved in the contest.

One week to go...

Xyz: 6084302
Top: 4312159

https://www.spamhaus.org/statistics/tlds/
Badness Index as of now (less is better):
.org 0.12
.info 0.27
.PRO 0.27
.com 0.63
.net 0.70
.biz 1.22
.top 5.91

I got my first .xyz spam yesterday, something about a missed delivery and wanted me to check out the attachment. Like who would do that? :xf.wink:

Whats great is that I went to nic.xyz, sent them the email info. and as of today the domain is already suspended. .XYZ runs a clean operation, spam site shut down in less than 24 hours! :)

I prefer .xyz

Same here.

Dot top makes no sense at all.

Dot xyz also makes no sense, but it is used by Google and so it will benefit from that credibility which could help sustain it long enough to make it in the long run.

Our preferences have no any impact on the actual enduser demand...

I still believe that it is possible that .top will will stay on top before this year (2016) ends.
