Hi,
I am confused because this week 2 different sellers contacted me saying they want to offer me namename.com for $550..the other one offered it for $399.

After checking WHOIS I see that the domain is in fact expired and not owned by anyone at the moment and the domain is listed at namejet.com

I backordered it for $69 and I am the only bidder

You have this domain on backorder.
High Bid: $69 USD
Closing Time: 1d 11h
Auction Type: Pre-Release Auction (Private)

The whois states that NETWORK SOLUTIONS have renewed it until July 2017.
So does that mean I can't get it after all?

You can renew at your registrar, please contact them to renew it asap. May be you dont have enough time.

It's not my domain. I am hoping to get it. But seeing as 2 "sellers" have offered it to me for $550 / $399 I don't think it's going to be mine for $69... but what I am confused about is that it's not really expired when networksolutions have renewed it for another year? :-/

Network Solutions sends their pending deletes to NameJet for Pre-Release auctions. If you bid and are the only bidder or win bidding - it will be yours.

The emailers are feeling you (and others) out to decide if they should place a bid on the Pre-Release auction to snatch it up and resell to you. My guess is you own a similar domain.

You should probably remove the domain name from your original post or there is a good chance you may get more competition on this name on NameJet from people that read this that otherwise would not know about it.

Best of luck!

Yes, I own name-name.net and I replied I want to buy it before finding this out.
Then I sent another email saying I'm not interested after all. So I hope they don't bid :P

Thanks a lot for explaining! :)

I just had a moment to do a whois on namename.com and it does not appear that it would be coming up for a pre-release or pending delete anytime soon. So if that is the actual name you were going for here is what I see:

Domain Name: NAMENAME.COM
Registrar: URL SOLUTIONS INC.
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 1449
Whois Server: whois.pananames.com
Referral URL: http://www.pananames.com
Name Server: NS20.NETRIPLEX.COM
Name Server: NS21.NETRIPLEX.COM
Name Server: NS22.NETRIPLEX.COM
Name Server: NS23.NETRIPLEX.COM
Name Server: NS30.NETRIPLEX.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 12-mar-2016
Creation Date: 21-oct-1998
Expiration Date: 20-oct-2016

It is possible to list domains at NameJet that are not an expired name. But I do not see the domain you mention listed. I also don't see the 2017 expiration date that you reported in the whois.

Did you already mask the domain in your post, and the name in question is not actually namename.com? (if so that is best in these situations to not disclose your desired purchase). I believe this might be the case as things don't seem to line up. If not, I am sorry if I had given bad advice without looking into your specific situation...

Unfortunately, there's already enough information in the posts to deduce which name the person most likely bid on, assuming the masked name mentioned wasn't masked well enough.

"name-name.com" was just something I put as an example.

Oh that's good then. I thought when you said that you own the 'name-name.net' that you actually own the .net version of the .com, and that it contained a hyphen in it. But if that's not the case then it would be a little more difficult for someone to figure out.

But they can still use the Namejet auction details that you listed to drill it down to a few pages of names, hyphen variations included. Heck, there are probably people doing that right now.

The biggest mistake you made was responded to the person showing genuine interest. Something that you can't take back and just hope that they don't do any further investigation on the name.

Best of luck as I do hope that you get it for the $69!

I doubt it will be in much use to anyone unless they want to run a diner. But still, I should be more careful :)

... Or sell it to someone who owns a diner
