hello guys nd ladies, was just wondering why it must be .com names only. I stumbled into a one word name recently but all other extensions have been taken except for (dot info). so should I reg it or still look around for other dot com.

Pls kindly advise. still new in this domain stuff

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Sometimes a domain will show as available but then show as taken when you actually try to register it.

I registered one this morning (not .info though) that was taken in almost all other extensions.. Probably because the two words are popular.

.info is a weak TLD.
Just because the other extensions are taken doesn't mean you're going to sell the .info.
IMO don't register a name without a good reason. Assume it will never sell. Can you use it ?

If I find a domain with many extensions registered I check GD expiring auctions and closeouts to be sure they are not all dropping soon.
For example zyfin is registered in 7 extension but 6 of them are on expiring auctions.

there are still great .coms out there, I would look for a new gtld instead of .info of how everyone else has it. If you are driving for an informative website like a blog it'll work.

as usual nothing is black and white :)

all extension taken is a good place to start, unfortunately is also not true ... i can guarantee that not all extension are taken.

if com net org are taken it does not mean you should reg the info, but if 20+ tld are taken maybe is worth investing 5 bucks.

reckless.info has just been deleted, probably by tomorrow someone will reg it ... is not a huge name but i think is worth like a $100 for someone who wants to make a site full of videos about stupid people being stupid. if no one will show up in a year you can drop it and you've lost under $5

just my 2c

My 2c too...

I havent really seen the value in .info domains.

I am sitting with these which I thought was decent at the time, but struggling to sell them.

Maybe I am just not getting to the right buyer/s.

vulture.info
villagers.info
reliefs.info
pursue.info
propel.info
prefer.info
niece.info
mixture.info
attractive.info
bestie.info
cartooned.info
endeavors.info

Regards

Well, if it is a single word that you believe has value and all other ext with the word are indeed taken, why not reg the name and give it your best efforts?

Personally I've fared poorly in the past with the .info names I've had and have allowed all but one to expire.

this forum is indeed enlightening. will jus already count it as one of my losses. hoping to do well with time. as a newbie who has jus four names in my portfolio.. lol

a list of extensions to stay away from would be helpful or as a rule of thumb I should jus concentrate on the good dot com.

if I get the rules lined up here bfor I reg any name would be very OK.

Whenever i see your comment , i feel like you are a brand ambassador for .top domain

I really like the way you promote it all the time :)

It's just my conviction.

What does mean 'com'?
It's only the half* of a bland term.
*abbrevation

And what does mean 'top'?
It's the ultimate term while it's no abbrivation.
So .top definitely beats .com because 'top' means 'top' while 'com' only means 'commercial'.

no matter what extension I am sure it have value! as long ppl search that keywords on google, and have thousand or ten thousands searcher per month! I am sure they have value! for example keywords insurance.info or insurance.top, or xyz, or what ever extension is!
but if you want to sell it, that could be a different story :) but end user probably will buy it! as long the price are quite reasonable! :) for example, insurance.info! list on afternic or sedo, with $100, I am sure some ppl will pres BIN button! :) but to be honest, I never found one keywords! if I found them, I will not hesitate to register! but with one condition, ppl type that keywords on Google, at least 5k or more!
