Hello,

From a domaining point of view, the .COM VS new gTLDs ''forum battle'' is just ridiculous. For me, I don't care if the extensions says .COM, .ORG, .CO.UK, .XYZ, .TOP or .HORSE, as long as I can sell the name.

.COM is the king and everyone with some wisdom knows that, but without deep pockets, it's not easy to get your hands on any good ones. Then, there are alternatives. It will obviously take some effort to catch the few great ones without crazy renewals, but for me it's worth it.

I am a domainer, not a lobbyist.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It's entertaining, though... But yeah, a good name is a good name regardless of the extension IMO.

totally agree .. this kind of needless debate needs to end sometime (don't forget that everything gets indexed for any potential buyers to read)

if the ngtlds are going to succeed or not only time will tell

thanks for bringing this up

to each his own, i say. No need to bash the other side. Some of the "debates" that are going on, in some of the threads, are more of personal attacks than legitimate exchange of idea.

Some people chose to focus totally on one extension, such as .COM, .DE or .TOP.

That might be a great and highly lucrative business agenda as well. But it doesn't mean that all other extensions ''are bad''.

I stick to it, .top will overcome .com / .net / .org / .biz / .info / .pro / .tv / and all other .xyz's

The current (estimated) status of this 'long term goal': about 3 %

0 % |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 100 %

That is your believe, but still there is a LONG way to go. Especially compared with .COM. I would be extremely surprised if it ever happened.

Still, this is your opinion and like anyone's else, I respect this and I wish you the best of luck.

Time will show, just as with most other things...

From a domaining point of view it might be right. I am not denying the fact. But just imagine few things.
Large corporations are making considerable investments in new gtls, just because to ensure that there is no trademark infringements happens or to secure his online presence. Considering this is not an one time investment and have to renew every year. Which would be simply like putting money in a black hole since this doesn't gonna come back as a profit. But I know a client who have more than 1800 .com domains. There are more than 1200 tld's currently delegated and many of then cost more than USD1000 per year and the IT budget would be increasing 100 times. This is like the opportunities have been opened up for the domaining industry as well as the netizens but have made an expensive impact on many existing business man's life.
Managing this much domains is a huge task.

Also I know many tlds which are like singular and plural of the same word, eg: .property and ..properties and I can't really understand how these both make sense. Just imagine if I am investing in opening a new real estate business then he have to buy both and manage them inorder to maintain his online presence straight.

.Com has already faced a large battle with the introduction of ccTLD's and still came out shining despite some heavy losses on the way !

I expect new gTLDs to pose a similar threat in time but .com to come out on top again !

I've tried to stay out of the arguments for the most part. It's really a current vs future argument and no one knows what the future will bring for sure. I've been able to grab some nice new GTLD names that make sense, and I have a growing collection of decent .com names, so I'm prepared either way.

.COM is the king and everyone with some wisdom knows that, but without deep pockets, it's not easy to get your hands on any good ones. Then, there are alternatives. It will obviously take some effort to catch the few great ones without crazy renewals, but for me it's worth it.

I am a domainer, not a lobbyist.

I think there are 2 types that get into new gtlds.

More reasonable types, that are just investing in them, hoping to get more than they paid. But then you have this other group, where the battles usually happen.......

That say the crazy stuff like this or that is the next .com, .com is dying etc. Or ridiculous stuff like saying .com is VHS, horse and buggy, land line phone etc, while these new ones are blu-rays, cars, smartphones, or this is some new technology. Usually people with recent join dates that don't make much sense. They're pretty rampant here.

I would disagree with you on this

".COM is the king and everyone with some wisdom knows that, but without deep pockets, it's not easy to get your hands on any good ones."

If you're talking about true premium names, that would be correct. But you can get good .coms all day long for just a few hundred or less everyday in the Aftermarket.

No one will be using .com in a couple years. It's archaic.

Totally right, ''any good ones'' should have been ''the really great ones''.

I am buying .COM in auctions and at the aftermarket ''all the time'' and you can make a good profit from spending just XX or XXX per name.
