Is that keyword popular or not?

HugeDomains is basically your average domainer on steroids. They have average names like most domainers here on Namepros. Not saying that Namepros members don't have premium names also but you get what I mean.

Sometimes to get a good idea if a keyword is popular or not I go to HugeDomains and type it in their search. If they don't have many names with that keyword then chances are it's not that popular. Remember HugeDomains has an inventory of over one million domains and has a research team that works day and not figuring out popular trends. They get drops, closeouts and also do handregs so they do have their finger on the pulse so to speak.

It's a very simple and quick way you can see if you're headed in the right direction or not.

Every domain i register even though only dot coms i register myself without any back ordering and I park iot and then If someone inquires about them which they do I go for a quick sale as well. I run it like a TEAM even though one person. They don't make the revenue limits parked even I throw the domain out and let another take its place to see if that is a better fit.

"Sometimes to get a good idea if a keyword is popular or not I go to HugeDomains and type it in their search. If they don't have many names with that keyword then chances are it's not that popular."

Or it can mean that the ones with not many results are being purchased up quickly or people are not letting names drop in that category or many other things.

Its like saying "I was curious to know if brown pants are popular, so I went to this big department store that has teams doing market research 24/7, and I noticed that they have more brown colored pants than any other color, this must mean brown is the most popular color pants".

That could be the case, however, take into consideration that maybe there are so many brown colored pants because the other colors are being purchased more often.

I am not saying there is no room for your way of thinking, as I think for some keywords and niches there ay be, I am simply showing another side to things.

:-/ Perhaps HugeDomains inventory can be interpreted this way too:
The popular keywords are all sold. Anyone can have an idea of keywords that are not sold by looking at the domains left over in the inventory.
Thinking of patenting this idea of mine :xf.wink:

They also have a lot of pigeon shit! They snapped up about 10 or so of my names that I grabbed when I was starting out. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't reg any of them!

Might be a software snapping names based on predefined metrics. Dunno, just a thought...

Could be AI/Machine learning driven. I think there was case where they acidentally registered some problematic pornography related names that no human would have likely selected. Once alerted they removed them promptly.

I think a lot of their registrations are 100% automated. Maybe it's your average domaining bot on steroids.

You would think those predefined metrics include the most popular keywords that were inputed by humans.

seeing the other side of the coin is hard, especially when most are flipping two-headed one's

to look at one site and make purchasing decisions based on their inventory is flawed in so many ways.

one of which, would put you in direct competition with their buyers...

imo...

What you say makes sense but the more popular the keyword the more inventory they would invest in. If they only dealt with investors then their inventory would be snapped up fast but since they deal with end users that inventory will sit on the shelves longer and give the opportunity for research.

For example the word Web is one of the top keywords and their inventory of names including Web is 4,769 but take the word Profit which is number 2,000 on the list of most popular keywords and it only has 443 names at HugeDomains. The better the keyword the worse the prefix or suffix can be but still be a profitable name. You can add almost any other good word to Web and it will still be worth something but try to do that with a keyword that is less desirable and it won't be worth anything.

Nobody is looking at one site and making purchasing decisions. It's one step in a multiple step process to come to the right decision.

below you stated:

so, if they concluded that, they were headed in the wrong direction because they took your advice and believed your theory, then what route should they take next?

because now, they aren't going to buy any names, that contain keywords not found on hd.

imo....

It's a quick way to see if their headed in the right direction. I didn't say the only way.

If you take only one tip and make a decision you aren't to smart.

In my opinion using Huge/Domains as a research tool may not be the best idea. They constantly cycle through a huge (no pun intended) amount of names and are always dropping names and registering new ones.

They work on volume and not necessarily quality. So they will always have a lot of names of lesser quality that have only a small chance of selling.

If a name does not sell in a certain period of time they will drop it. So you may see names listed at their site and mistakenly think they are "good" names when really they could be marginal.

As I said, they can afford to play this game because they sell in such volume and are always rotating their inventory.

So do not believe that if you see names listed at their site they must be a good bet - not neccesarily so!

You can say that about every large portfolio holder. Have you ever looked at Berkens portfolio. There was a lot of junk in there and he got 35 million for it. Schilling, Mann, BuyDomains, etc.....all have marginal quality domains sitting right next to phenomenal domains. Not every domain in every portfolio is great.
