Other unofficial "Domaining" avenues?

Hey so after getting into domaining this month and getting into the groove and mindset, I've noticed that there are a few reasons why domains are expensive:

1. It's a hot keyword that people immediately go to when thinking of a niche: e.g.: Sale, Shop, Store, headphones

2. It's a positive word that you want the vibes from: Succeed, Ignite, Inspire

3. It's a cool name that has no business purpose or subtle psychology, but it's cool so people want it: FireSword, Subzero, etc.

So the trend I'm seeing is, as extensions get more popular, people race to buy the same names over and over. It's rare for people to handreg new names or different names.

SO I WAS WONDERING.

Can you be a "domainer" elsewhere? I play League of Legends, and it's probably one of the most popular games ever. I'm pretty sure all the good names are taken :/, but so you get Summoner Names which are your in-game names.

What if you hoarded summoner names? Like Succeed, Fire, Love. Then tried to sell them? There isn't a marketplace yet for name sales (I know selling accounts is illegal for most games, but selling names?) What if you could do name sale instaed of an account sale?

So like instead of "new extensions" coming out, you hawk on new games coming out? Like Overwatch, etc. Then you just create 100 accounts with these generic names and wait for the game to get popular then sell the names?

Is it a good idea? :D

People will hoard anything. Twitter names. Toll-free numbers (even though it's not allowed). Back in the day, Yahoo handles too, Hotmail addresses etc. But we are talking about ultra-tiny 'markets' here, much smaller than the domain market. Sales are so rare that it's not really worth taking this route (not to mention that this would more often than not be against the companies TOS).
Should have bought bitcoins instead :)

WOAJ you have some great ideas. Had no idea you could hoard telephone numbers. Imagine if you had 1888-888-8888 <-- millions.

Well I don't know tbh. They're small markets, but the demand is larger. If I owned the name "Fire" on LoL, pretty sure I could find an end-user (LoL forum) in under a day. Ignoring the high school kids, I'm sure the college+ ones would pay at least $1k. Upside is, it's free to sign up for a name (unlike domains), so if I had 100 good ones, that's $100k.

From reading the "full time domaining" thread, it sounds like finding buyers is the biggest issue. Unless you have a great name like "cuz.com", you're just shooting in the dark. It seems like most domainers just park their domains at Sedo and other marketplaces, then wait for them to sell. And it takes months to sell.

Idk, that's just what I see :). It looks like everyone's saying it's hard to make money domaining and most people make $200 / month.
