No need to share the domain names (unless you want to). Feel free to share below if the acquisition paid off, what negotiations were like, etc.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've purchased domains above $10k, but I look at those as long-term investments. I hold them until either I need cash or a large payday comes along. These are moonshots.

I'm only able to hold those domains because of domain purchases below $10k that I consider short-term investments, which sell regularly. These are dependable and scalable.

I spent 6 figures 15 years ago and the investment is worth millions now. The more you spend on a great name, the more it will probably be worth if its a premium, one word category defining .com. Those don't necessarily need a website to be worth seven or eight figures.

$10200 on an adult domain.

Whether it pays off in the future, we shall see. Altho, I received a 6 figure offer a few months back, so I should be okay.

Thank you for your responses and votes. Very cool/interesting to see the highest voted price be $10k+

What's interesting to me is that according to last week's survey more than 50% of domainers earn less than $100/month from domaining. On the other hand more than 50% of domainers have spent more than $1000 on a single domain. What's wrong with this picture?

I have spent about $1000 each on a few names. These have all been 'easy' to flip for at least the double, within a few months.

Currently, I rarely spend more than $XX on names, but if I start to sell more names in the $XXXX range, I will start to invest in more expensive names again. All my investment funds are generated from my domain sales, so the more successful I am as a domainer, the more expensive names I'll buy.

$150

I wish I had $xxxx for single purchases :-P

Well, OK, it's not really the lack of money but rather the fact that I'm more of a domain collector (addict?) than domain investor.
That itch we scratch when we find names to buy - I wouldn't be able to scratch it with just one domain. I need to relieve that discomfort on regular basis :xf.grin:

Perhaps indicative of living on credit / liability in hopes of future growth & good ROI... (or as Bon Jovi said, Livin' on a prayer....) :D

Must be the difference is parking versus holding for domain name for selling later. If your only selling and buying and having to hold a long time your not getting the monthly revenue potential a parked domain can have. But many factors play into that as well which would be a topic for a whole different thread. lol

Most Ive ever spent is 500 bucks and only once. Its a tricky thing the whole domain world. Id rather own 100 domains worth 10k each than 1 thats worth a million. The more valuable the domain is considered to be the less potential buyers there are. Strictly speaking, a domain is worth nothing untill you sell it and if you have a domain you think is worth 5 million but havent had that offer for years then its obviously not worth as much as you thought. For example you might say fire.com has got to be worth a million and maybe it is in theory but how many people are there that will spend that? I havent looked up past sales of that name so I could be wrong but hopfully you get my meaning. Liquidity is the way forward.

Disclaimer - I have 0 domains worth over 10k lol.

wow 1k 10yrs ago, might have been a good investment would you care to share the domain name ?

It is a 6L.com consisting of two English 3 letter dictionary words. Fitness related. Its better than Fitbit for example and is very brand-able.
I never list my domains because potential buyers can Google and see what I paid for it.

I spent $100 on TonicWine dot com - This was a no brainer for me, My drink of choice is Buckfast tonic wine.

The owner of Tonic-Wines.com made it clear he's not interested in purchasing it!
