Hello,
I have seen thread regarding SHOP and STORE extensions where people stated which string they prefered
It was just before STORE release.
Some people prefered STORE some SHOP.
Somone quoted Google searches for STORE (550,000)and for SHOP (368,000). Also PPC is few times higher for STORE.
I have been watching STORE registrations for about two weeks and i have to say that i do not see anything spectacular, especially that it can be registered for little over 6 dollars.
The extension most of time get about 200 registrations a day, sometimes even about 100.
Yesterday, it got higher number of registrations than usual but i don't concentrate on only one day.
If i agree that SHOP is better I still have a problem to believe that is very far from STORE.
They are maybe no the same but very related to each other.
I am wondering what you think about it
Do you believe SHOP will be successful while looking how STORE is doing?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It's also a cultural thing. In America I think people say store more often than shop. In England I think they'd rather use shop. It's a question of perspective.
Right now .store has fewer than 40K regs, which isn't huge.

Nice to know some facts. I myself registered one .Store name yesterday (VRequipment.store).

Store sounds way more serious than shop. Atleast for me.

I don't see anything spectacular in all nTLDs...
In terms of endusers and aftermarket-sales by domainers...

Depends on your definition of successful. Noone should believe that a newly released gtld is going to be some new sensation. There just isnt some huge group of end users chomping at the bit for any ngtld.

In my opinion .store could grow but there are alot of ifs and possibly alot of time.

@OP

It was just released, way to early to tell..

apparently .shop will not be allowed for domainers/resellers only direct end users.. so already .store is looking like a better investment

It was released one month ago.
I have been watching newTLDs for a while and one common thing I see among them if a string does not do well at the very beginning it seldom does better later.

If SHOP is going to do twice better than STORE in the future I still do not see it as a great investment opportunity.
Not to mention a high renewal cost..

I like .shop more than .store

Shop is like spending money
Store is like storing items purpose

However, .shop is operated by a Japanese registry, and I asked several chinese domainers that they are not a fan of japan........ for obvious historical & current unsolvable reasons..........

Where did you read this? It looks wide open when looking here..

https://www.101domain.com/shop.htm

This is what the GMO registry said about .shop in its application:

3. Usage Restrictions
The purpose of the domain name usage will be restricted as follows:
a. Registered .SHOP domain names must be used for commercial activities in an online or offline environment, or to provide information in relation thereto over the internet; or
b. Registered .SHOP domain names must be intended to be used primarily for commercial activities in an online or offline environment, or to provide information in relation thereto over the internet.

Registration of a .SHOP domain name solely for the purpose of selling, exchanging, trading, leasing the domain name shall be deemed as inappropriate use or intent.

SOURCE: http://www.gtld-similarity.info/apps/1794.html

Now I don't know if they are in fact going to implement this. I'm just quoting parts of the application. It would be wise for them not to do this ;)

how do they prevent domainers from registering .shop domains ?

The Applicant will conduct random checks to determine compliance with registrant eligibility, name selection, and usage restrictions (hereafter ʺeligibility requirementsʺ) using sampling methodologies. In case the Applicant determines a sampled domain is in violation of the eligibility requirements, the domain name may be deleted or placed on lock, hold, or similar status.

.Store is doing horribly now, often only about 100 registrations a day.

True but if they continue with 100-150 registrations per day they will end up around 100K registrations by the end of the year which is the current equivalent of 1.5 million .xyz registrations (since the average .xyz registration price is $1 and the average .store domain is currently priced at around $15 ). So all things in perspective so far they are doing relatively good compared to the other new gTLDs. Of course "relatively good" doesn't mean a lot with the new gTLDs as over the past 2 years many of us have lowered our expectations regarding them. Drastically.

I predict CHIPS (Chinese Premiums) in .store

You are looking at it from Registry point, which should not be interested to you at all unless you are running .store.
From domain investor point 100K is a joke because this number does not carry any awareness among people. When there is no awareness among an extension there is very little demand and very difficult to sell anything
Xyz has millions registration and still average person never heard about it. You can buy .xyz great keyword for pennies all day long.
