Hello, this is about Godaddy platform in particular.

One of the reasons Godaddy won't allow transfer out of domain is if the whois contact info has been updated. It'd be a 60-day lock according to their knowledgebase / blog. Just wondering , how come I was able to use my domain authorization code at another registrar to make a transfer (and Is this the same with other registrars) ?

I didn't fully go through with it but I had the domain on my other registrar's cart, and able to log in to my Paypal account, at transfer fee. Can someone verify if I did actually paid for transfer, will GoDaddy let go of domain that's supposed to be locked for 60 days ?

I'm hoping to transfer out a .org which I bought off someone. Godaddy .org renewal is quite high. I hope for it to work this time, thinking that their blog was an outdated version Lol

**If you have .org coupon at Godaddy, you're welcome to pm or post here. Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The 60 day lock pertains to changes made to the REGISTRANT "Organization", "First", or "Last" name or immediately following a registration/transfer. At least nowadays. If these don't apply to you, than you'd be good to go. Check the whois for status codes like clientTransferProhibited...meaning you can't transfer it.

It's their policy, so if you ask, they'll lift it. At least, they have the power/decision to do so. Just play dumb to the policy. Contact [email protected]. It's the godaddy dept. that heads it.

There are no transfer coupons anymore at godaddy. Maybe there's a special running at another registrar that you'd be transferring to. Otherwise, I'd recommend the domain discount club for godaddy renewals, etc.

You can obtain the EPP code and even attempt a transfer but it will be rejected by GoDaddy when the acquiring registrar attempts to transfer the domain. This is exactly what happened to me recently when I tried to transfer a newly acquired domain from GoDaddy

I'll try to contact them but forgot to mention that the domain I want to transfer has only one day left .... Well I forgot that it's today. I guess it's still too late anyway ?

I think you can not transfer which are expiring within 15 days anyways with any of the registrar

I don't think there's any such restriction. I've been able to transfer domains with lesser time remaining. Perhaps there are restrictions depending on the TLD?

Transfer outs from GD can be still made something like ~40 days after expiry date.

I just contacted them and are able to grant my request to unlock domain. They just need my final written consent. I just hope they read my response early enough, cause it seems my last chance is today. I thought it was yesterday.

Thanks for everyone's help

Is the actual expiration Today? @nomen is correct - even if it is expired, it can be transferred as long as it is unlocked. AND GD has fast approve transfer so once you confirm the transfer email from gaining registrar, you can log in to GD and fast approve and they will do it in like 15 minutes

If you are meaning that your domain expired 40 ish days ago and you are on last days before deletion then you'll likely have problems

^ And no need to renew before transferring ? Today would be my domain's expiration but I initiated transfer yesterday.

I called Godaddy to confirm, they said no need to worry about expiration as long as I've already started the process of transferring and at no renewal cost. Just not sure if it's the same when initiating transfer on domain that expired first.

Who is gaining registrar? You should have already gotten the transfer email

ETA only if the lock was lifted from GD - use this whois and see if the status says OK or there is still a clientTransferProhibited http://gwhois.org

^Namesilo. Just waiting for Review60 team's response, I think they'll have to resend the transfer confirmation. They declined the transfer the first time.

OK namesilo has awesome transfer manager, most likely the domain is still locked.

This will tag @Joe Styler or send him a PM if they are taking too long to lift the lock

Once your status says OK you can restart transfer at NameSilo super easy, then use GD fast approve.

@cmdomains @usernamex You can transfer out, unlock and get the auth code from GD even if your domain is expired. You don't have to renew before doing that. If I remember correctly you can do this up to 42 days after the domain has expired.

Not sure if any other registrar let's you do that. At least not Dyna, NameSilo or NameCheap...

I am not sure about the details of this specific transfer so I will answer in general terms. Under normal circumstances you can transfer a domain away from us after it expires if it is still in the grace period. Depending on how long ago it expired you may have to contact support to get the auth code information and release the domain for transfer.
If the name is locked from the registry for 60 days you cannot move it, that seems unlikely in this case but it is still possible.
If the name is locked because of ownership changes on GoDaddy's side you can email [email protected] to get the domain name unlocked.
If you contact support on our side they should be able to help you straighten this out and move the name, they will have the account and specific domain name etc and be able to see what is holding things up, who stopped the transfer etc. It should be a pretty easy resolution either way unless the registry locked the name in which case you need to wait 60 days. .Org registry locks are very rarely removed by the registry.

^Thanks for the responses. They have responded via [email protected] . I'm just waiting for the transfer email to come through this second time. Wondering why it's taking longer than usual. I hope it's not cause the domain already expired and now not as worthy of a fast service.

For documentation purposes:

They've unlocked the domain and generated a new EPP. So I tried this to reinitiate transfer at Namesilo. Didn't have to pay them again as the first request is active for 30 days unless I cancel and request for a refund.

@cmdomains For future general reference: Everything in the domain industry takes time. Actually, it doesn't, but when you're making only a few (as I am) really good sales a year, everything feels like it's taking forever. Not to mention when the deal goes south for an unknown reason... Had couple of those just recently and atm ready to f#%$in' implode.

^Tell me about it ...
Called Godaddy again to check what's the hold up, only to be told that I'd have to re-order the transfer - meaning to also get a refund on previous. Meanwhile my registrar platform is designed so I wouldn't have to do that, just need to resend the transfer w/o the extra move.

It's interesting that even my registrar has a section about Godaddy using unnecessary reason for domain transfer lock.

I've already given them proof of purchase on the domain through an experienced domainer. What more do you want.
