.store vs .shop, what do you think is a better investment and why? Some keywords flow nicely with one or the other, and some flow nice with both new gTLDs, maybe invest in both?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I took a look at .store but any decent domains are priced way too expensive. I personally prefer the word "shop" over "store" anyway.

Thanks,
Brandon

These extensions are not meant for domainers, they are meant for direct end users. Hardly an investment when you are taxed a premium renewal each year.

Well, the thing is regular .store and .shop domains are priced rather cheaply at around $10.

But the registry did such a great job at finding and designating premium domains, there aren't any good regular price domains left and the premium domain prices are exorbitantly high.

Thanks,
Brandon

Radix always does, the names they left for scraps have very little chance of end user sale by a domainer.

Unless you are in the business of buying for $10, and flipping for $40 you are simply padding their books by registering the it's stretch domains.

The last few releases have been heavily reserved, and very high renewal.

Ask the ones who bought in 2014 how their premium renewals are panning out.

Yes, anything decent is premium and way too expensive IMO.

When is the .shop to be available?

I agree, the registry reserved and "premiumed" pretty much all of the good names, but if you didn't find any at standard reg&renewal fee then you didn't look hard enough!

Currently "store" is preferred by some famous internet companies and people are becoming used to it, like "apple store", "windows store", "app store", "google store", etc. But "shop" is shorter (4 letters) and maybe easier for branding. Both have their potential customers I think.

.shop sounds and looks better IMO

.shop is better IMO. .store are only meant for the registry. Stupid pricing on any OK domain that neither most domainers nor end users can afford.

For me, it varies by the domain. To me, Coffee.Shop works better than Coffee.Store and Computer.Store works better than Computer.Shop.
I would be happy to have any of those 4 domains, though.

.shop won't be a domainers gtld so what does it matter which one you prefer?

This is what the GMO registry said about .shop in its application:

Registration of a .SHOP domain name solely for the purpose of selling, exchanging, trading, leasing the domain name shall be deemed as inappropriate use or intent.

They will also do random checks to see nobody is breaking this rule. So, as a domainer, if you buy a few .shop domains trying to sell them to end users you may just lose your domain(s) altogether. Not worth the risk, hence I prefer .store.

Wow, I didn't know that.

So, that clause doesn't apply to .store?

Good lookin' out!

So, I wonder...will they be looking at auction sites (Sedo, GoDaddy, Flippa, etc) to see what is available on there? Or just doing random spot checks? Hmmm... makes you wonder.

Why u did get into auction? you tried to purchase those domains in the Landrush or GA? because I lost few domains in the GA for others without getting into auction....
