What are your thoughts on this sale?

Did the buyer get a good deal? Did they overpay?

Can you be profitable in domaining if you pay this much for acquisitions on a fairly regular basis?

I think its a good deal, good for entrepreneur/learning websites.

I agree that it's a nice call to action name the likes of which does not become available every day (at least from my fairly limited experience in domaining).

I am curious about the profitability though, and how $1,903 aquisitions fit into an overall domaining strategy. Can the buyer count on getting an offer of at least that amount within the next year? If not, what are their expectations?

This was an expiring domain, just to be clear.

Good name, maybe a bit high on the buy but if you can hold for a while good end user potential.

In relation to your last question, it's very hard to compete with the big bidders and to make ROI in domaining. It's not an easy option and you will need significant funds and lots of patience IMO.

These kind of names used to sell for under $500 a few years back, it can take years before they sell. You will get dozens of lowball time wasters before that 1 end user comes thru if they do.

You need serious bank roll to buy, and hold these kind of names, a dozen will cost you about $25K of tied up money.

Completely agree with everything you've said.

I wouldn't bother paying up $2k for a name like this.

Do you know 'who' bought it, and 'why' they bought it? Not everyone buys a domain on the aftermarket is a domainer or is buying it to resell for profit. This is a great name for those that would want to develop it out as a motivational and/or inspirational focused website. Don't see the drama in needing a reason to justify one's purchase of this domain. ('Forest for the trees' people, 'forest for the trees'..)

I agree Hawkeye, that was what I wrote this morning in the Go Daddy picks post. Motivational speaking, self help.

These guys might want to upgrade and shorten.

These guys are some of the biggest lowballers out there, they offer like $100, $500 etc... take a real long time to get one with deep enough pockets, or a willingness to pay, but that is the gamble in this business.

I own plenty of these, so I know, I was in this bid upto $1600 range, then it was getting up there, almost had it at $900, and $1300, but it was a 3 way bidding war.

Oh I am not disagreeing with you on that, I did not think it would go that high, I liked the name at a certain price, I would not have went that high as a domainer. But someone like Berkens would go that high because he has sold those kinds of names for $25,000 to $50,000 for over a decade. I never get those guys, I get the lowballer. I see some good uses for the domain name.

I totally agree with you also, could be Berkens who bought it, he has the bankroll, and the confidence to pay it, but he is a stringent bidder also, and I don't see him going that high either unless he really wanted it. As stated above sometimes the end users track it, and it is not always a domainer, but I feel this was a domainer, as the bids were tight after $1300 range.

Or it might be someone who is really confident that BetterYourselfOnline would be willing to pay more than $1903 for the domain. It might be possible to make those kind of educated guesses with a good success rate if you do your homework.

I was watching it and would have been happy to buy it up to around $300 or a bit more. Above that, there are really so many better options to consider.

This name sounds like in the area of education or rehabilitation; maybe. Price wise, not bad. Even though the is kind of long, but i like the name; it has its direction.

It's a really good price - easy 5 figures to the right end user.

Excellent name for self-help projects. Also fit for the education and/or community development niches. I saw the .net extension being offered for $1,588, the .org for $900.

A similar name is coming up next week - bestever.com. It's actually much better - I suspect it will go over $5,000.

I don't think anyone is disputing that it is a good call to action name in the self help/motivational space.

However, assuming a domainer bought it which I think is highly likely it is not worth that price IMO.

The competition for any half decent name nowadays is crazy. You have to factor in that you paid $2k, may have to hold for years to get a decent offer and you may never sell it for close to what you're hoping for. I watched it and sat it out when I saw where it was heading.

Each to their own!

the buyer got an excellent deal i reckon it sold far to cheap

that is the perfect domain for a tech entrepreneur or next socialmedia website because it says exactly what it does and is a .com and it will never go out of date because 50 years from now people will still want to better themselves etc

betteryourself.com is also a perfect domain to take to deposit at a bank and leave on the back burner for a few years etc but now i think of it i have just this minute found the way for banks to accept domain names as currency etc

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst approach. Very sober. Based on the current market trends and risk factors, what in your opinion is the optimal price for the name?

That is of course subjective.
I wouldn't pay more than around $1200 max for it at auction and even that is at a stretch.

It is not going to be an easy sale for decent ROI IMO unless it was bought by the end user themselves.
I hope the buyer proves me wrong.

This is exactly the type of name Berkens buys. Pays 2 grand and sells it for 40 grand.

Berkens is an exception rather than the rule. In every sphere of life there are elites and then the whopping, struggling masses. Domaining is not an exception. If Berkens could do it that does not necessarily mean everbody can do it.

How do you figure Berkens pulls that off?
