services Domaintools.com Price increase and Services cut!

Spaceship Spaceship

Just a heads up to everyone, if Mr. Chen makes no reversal of this attempt at jacking up prices, disrespect grandfathered accounts and taking back services then I suggest we cancel our domaintools accounts.

Can you imagine the nerve, raise prices grossly and cut services and try to justify by offering things no one asked for lol

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I was also surprised. I wrote to them about this. No reply from them.

I will unsubscribe from next month on wards.

I quit them a loooooong time ago. They've constantly been taking away features and raising prices. Though their data is not as complete, DomainIQ is a much better alternative.

I had to laugh, looked at their twitter and they tweeted about the price increase/service reduction and two people "liked" the tweet, really two people like getting S#$%^ED!

Mission cancel domaintools membership 2016 if they do not reverse decision or cut back price and service changes!

I carelessly renewed without checking their reduced services. I immediately asked for cancellation and refund. I never even imagined that they will increase the price by reducing the services by 60-80%.

This is the reply I received on April 12
. From then on wards, nothing from their side.

Thanks for contacting DomainTools. We will respond to you shortly.

Years ago, they started to shift their focus toward law enforcement. It's clear that no longer want to be perceived as a domainers outfit and don't need us.

You may be right, how do you guys like domainiq?

And they're so nice to give us %30 off the first month OR first year! They're probably not going to miss my $30 every month.... Since the redesign the site has been slow anyway....

True it has been slow, non loading etc.

I guess they assume that with the increased interest in domaining in China they'll have a lot of users anyway.

Just cancelled my subscription. They increased my monthly payment from $12 to $99! Imagine if someone increased your insurance premium more than eight-fold... Ridiculous.

Is DomainIQ the best alternative, as someone pointed out?

Another sad part if this most do not realize. Over the last decade+ I have helped recover at least 100’s and hundreds of stolen domains. The whois history plays an extremely crucial role it making time lines, contacting rightful owners, evidence for rar’s to return names etc. I never charged anyone who asked me for help it is something I enjoyed doing.

If I were to want to continue that the cost would be very large to me now or I would have to charge for the service.

Seeing as I cannot justify a renewal then this guy is done recovering stolen names for people.

This is not to mention the fact that it is now more risky for new domainers then it already was and for us old pro’s to do due diligence.

Still you can check Whois at Domaintools for few domains for free.

History is the key here, for me any ways. I would not have been able to comfortably buy or help recover stolen names without it. And when I dig my teeth into recovery I use history a massive amount!

I won't be using domain tools anymore rubbish..

Yes their audience is legal and law enforcement. They don't want or need domainers. I've tried lots of places and think DomainIQ is the best. They have different plan options based on how much you use it but their prices are more domainer-friendly.

One thing I have not been able to find is a domain search tool that searches ALL extensions. One drawback to DomainIQ is that you can't do a search for all other TLDs taken. They don't do .co.uk, .fr .de .com.au .com.br etc... whereas domaintools search showed EVERYTHING. If anyone knows a tool or service that is complete in this way, please share it.

Otherwise for historical whois records and screenshots (at least for the last few years) DomainIQ should be a good alternative.

Jay's move towards the IP lawyer and law enforcement market upset a lot of people in the business then. At least it was an evolution of the business and it met a particular market need. This latest effort seems like an attempt to sweat the asset and DomainTools' only asset is the historical WHOIS data. The daily 200 WHOIS lookups and the monthly 25 historical WHOIS lookups and monthly 25 hosting history lookups is a sick joke for domainers.

I think very few if any ccTLDs are included, but they do include the nTLDs. Point here is that it is very incomplete especially if you're dealing with domains in foreign languages. Anyone know of a tool that shows ALL taken TLDs for a given search, including ccTLDs?

The new gtlds are quite doable in real time. The ccTLDs tend to take a while to check in real time. (Wrote the code for it last year but never around to launching the tool.)

They are increasingly interested in a different market segment that manifestly does not include the couple of hundred/ thousand domain name portfolio holder.

If they reduce services and increase prices then what is the point. Vote with your money folks

Signed up for DomainIQ yesterday, liking it, just wish the whois history went farther back but otherwise good.
