Which is better keywordTV.com or keyword.TV? Ultimately I would think owning both and using the .TV extension but what do you think and why.

What if only the .TV was available. Would you use it or find a .com?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
In order of preference:
  1. Keyword.com
  2. KeywordTV.com + Keyword.TV
  3. Keyword.TV

:)

That's an excellent question. Thanks for bringing it up.

I can't/won't answer though since I'm on the same dilemma as you are

If your keyword is .tv related than I would say DEFINITELY keyword.tv

In this case, I think keyword.tv sounds much better than keywordtv.com.

I see more commercials with keywordtv.com than keyword.tv

Some good thoughts. I definitely think if it's a video based type of site then a specific keyword with a .TV would be really good. To be honest I really like the .TV extensions for sites like this. The cost of the .com is overkill if you can get a good .TV I like it because even before you visit the site you know what you're expecting to see especially if the keyword is spot on.

Never bought a .TV and never will. Type-in traffic to keywordtv.com would be high.

True but I think the ideal thing is to have both keywordTV.com and keyword.TV and just redirect the .com. This way you cover your base by owning the .com and get the traffic but have the shorter more brandable .TV

I have a domain that gets hundreds of visit a day because the developed one is the Keywordtv.com version so you'll lose some type-in every choice you make.
In any case I prefer the keyword.tv domain without a doubt

Either. Of course, it's always better to have both. I've seen both variations marketed successfully without the other.

If I HAD to spend more on one..? I would go for the .tv.

My view has been that both keyword .TV and KeywordTV.com make sense for video-oriented websites. However, the key limitation here is that many end users are creating Youtube or Vimeo channels with no need for a domain whatsoever. And yet the only reason to have a TV domain is for a video-oriented site. Why pay four or five figures for a domain when Youtube is free? Regardless, I still think such domains make for a good way to brand a video website. If you look at recent DNJ reports there will be occasional .TV sales but not so many TV.com sales. From a SEO vantage point, a keyword.TV domain would be an exact match domain while a keywordTV.com domain is merely a brandable - potentially more difficult to rank at Bing and Yahoo where exact match domains still receive a significant ranking advantage. However, TV.com is still .COM while .TV is not and non-.COM domains are more difficult to sell. From a cost vantage point, .TV renewals are a high hurdle as you will generally pay $28-$30 at most registers for .TV while .COM renewals can be under $9 through Godaddy's discount club As someone who has held hundreds of both versions and let more than half my portfolio drop due to a lack of sales, I would urge the following cautions...

-keyword must be one where you would expect to see significant video content on the site. Otherwise, there is no need for a TV domain and a potential buyer could easily go with any other extension including the hundreds of new TLDs. No reason to pay serious money for a name which serves little purpose.

-keyword must have significant search volume because again neither option is an exact match .COM where there is far more demand.

-Non-English keywords are far more difficult to sell and the reason why I have had to let so many names drop. Most TV domain sales are for English keywords or short LL type names.

I would welcome a shift in end user sentiment toward these types of names but I have marketed them extensively and thus far found little interest. I am still holding my best names but am far more cautious about acquisitions than a few years ago.

I'm the ex-owner of Keyword.tv and Keywords.tv

Both.

If it's an online only launch then in that sole case, Keyword.TV might make sense.
Anything else I'd use KeywordTV.com, but imo you need it either way as much of the traffic will likely go there.

People are most used to .coms than .tv . The best shot is to have all the three
keyword.tv
keyword.com
keywordtv.com

9gag.com and 9gag.tv ..is a similar site and they have both names with them.

Very fitting example. And in support of my earlier post, 9gag.tv redirects to the .com.

I have keyword.com for a developed keyword.tv site and I get traffic from that. I did not know about tv site and checked later because of the traffic.

If I buy keywordtv.com I would probably buy keyword.tv as well, as a hack.

But some manage to have tv in both parts. I know L+TV+L.TV channel, now that is a bit redundant. They'd be better off getting L+TV+L.com
