domains Big price hikes coming April 15 2016... but WHY?

This week I received the email saying prices are going up 11% - 15% across the board... this following last year's 12% price hike. This is CRAZY, no other computer related service is seeing 22% price hikes.

Anyone know what's going on? Computers are getting CHEAPER, the prices should be going DOWN. Isn't ICANN supposed to monitor this kind of nonsense and prevent price gouging?

I'll be paying $9.98 for .com at eNom next month... is any registrar offering a better deal?

They are the domain landlords who own us. Pay up or you are homeless on the street.
This is why I'm going to get rid of the dead weight.
They've made so much money in the last year that they want more.

ICANN't sucks
and won't do a single thing to protect domain owners. They are all for price hikes. It put's more money in their pocket and then they pay board members $900,000 a year to do nothing for us.

What say do we have in price hikes? Don't buy 100's of domains! Don't renew junk. Don't buy crappy gtld's that are pointless. Be very very selective. Write ICANN't and beg for help. Don't expect any though.

I've just started using namesilo.com because GD seems to be a lot more expensive now, with namesilo I paid $8,99 for a .com per year.

I pay $8.47 total at godaddy with a discount domain club membership. You can get the discount by paying $59 a year using a 35% coupon. If you own a couple hundred domains, it is worth it to pay for the club.

That's quite a negative view you have there.

And I completely agree with it. :xf.smile:

Of course we should have a say in it. Complacency isn't working anymore.

Lately I have been getting .com for $8.10 (no extra ICANN fee) at Epik.com. The published rate is $8.49 but they offered me a discount, without even asking, based on the size of my portfolio. I really like their interface and ease of transfer.

So you all against icann and the registrars not paying their help?
Giving their help raises?
Maybe hiring more people?
More involved than icann just raising rates.

Vehicles go UP every year!
NOw gas is chugging back up!
Electricity is chugging up a bit.
So is water.
And more.

Those affect some of us more than others, but the effect is still there.
Now it also affects those who run and work at icann and registrars, etc.

And remember, icann unlike registrars, can not go into other businesses like hosting, email, parking, having auctions and markets, etal.

Cost of goods sold is ZERO. They are literally selling air, and there is no loss from spoilage, no water, no vehicles, no need to travel, no shipping costs, no manufacturing, no insurance, no warehouses... nothing. They would make a fortune at $1/ea. $10/ea is just gouging.

You are on point. I personally have removed some junks from auto renewal and the gtld I reg mostly is .online and I made sure they were names I could develop to generate income if no decent offer came. My investment in other gtlds is possibly not more than $100 and I am ready to throw them into the trash bin if they don't sell before October 2017, their expiry dates

They are not selling air.
If you say they are, what does that make you and all domainers reselling domains?

There is much more to icann than a simple sale of a domain.
Business 101 is not going to be taught here.

Business 101?
Anyone who can't keep costs under control with a zero product cost item would never be competent enough to run a real business.

Strictly speaking .com,
ICANN $0.18
Verisign $7.85
Registrar: Difference of $8.03
Read more into what each of these entities actually do, and it's more justifiable than you think... :guilty:

Water is zero cost. You still need pumps (internet), filtration (DNS, firewalls, etc.) and storage containers (server farms).

They're paying their employees pretty good.
a $900,000 salary is pretty damn good for an ICANN employee! Who decided on giving him that much pay? ICANN did not domainers.
You can hire alot of people for that much. Giving one person at ICANN that much is crazy!
I thought they were a non-profit? How can a non-profit afford to pay an employee $900,000?
