I see so many buyers of domains here, but wonder how many of you have actually sold a domain?
Buying is easy, fun and addictive, but it needs to lead to a sale eventually.

Be honest now... B-)

I don't sell as frequently as some people here but I can say it provides me with more income that I'd earn working a traditional job.

Yep, we've all got to start somewhere. My concern is that many of us can easily get caught up in all the hype, and just keep buying more, without understanding what actually sells.

Sitting on $23,000 profit since 2013. Not bad but not great. Yes I am one who let their 5n.com domains expire back in 2009 and one who sold a LLLL.com chip for $39 on flippa back in 2012. Hindsight is a wonderful thing :).

I started around 6 months ago. Listed a couple of domains on Flippa. Never sold a domain name on Flippa though. I've only managed to sell a website on Flippa for $500. It was a good sale and my first sale ever.

Then, I came to know about NamePros in December. I had a couple of domains by then. I joined NamePros in December and made around $900 in sales that month. Sales in January and February were in $xxx range as well.

I've learnt a lot about domains here at NamePros. This is a great place to learn about domains and current market trends.

I've lost money as well for the domains that I overpaid for. (._.')

But, now I am a bit careful at what I invest in! :)

What I've learnt so far is that you'll eventually make a sale. Just invest in the right domains and ask the community if you are unsure about something. Many members here are far better at this than us, newbies. Their advice is always worth it! :)

Since January 1st 2008 I have sold 418 domains for a total of USD $788,602, not including brokered names. I started domaining in late 2006, but I don't have sales data from my first 1 1/2 years. :)

Haven't been very active the last couple of years, because of two kids and a full-time offline biz.

I sell about ten names a month. Some for coffee money, some for more...

Sold a few domain names on Flippa last year for $$. This year I had 1 sale from Godaddy Premium listing for $300 (minus 20% commission).

Trying to focus this year on outbound emails to sell some domain names. It is a long process, but hopefully will get some results.

Congratulations Idris,
you probably will make more money creating 10 websites a month for Flippa sales
much easier to sell a decent designed website than a domain at Flippa

my 2 cents

I voted a "few", but over the years it has been more than a "few", just not "regularly" either, as I had not sold any in a long time till this last year, and quite a few a decade ago.

Don't feel bad, I let a few 5n drop in 2015, that's why it's important to stay current with the market prices. There wasn't much liquidity in domains until recently (outside one word .com,lll,nnn), feels like a whole new ball game. To answer op, I usually don't sell to resellers so I may only sell 5-25 names a year.

For me domaining is a game. I am an impatient seller that sells to 99.9% resellers. This year I've sold 59 domains hand registered for double, triple or quadruple the price. It's a hobby or a game, not something I make a living out of or take seriously.

The main thing is profit, I've lost out on three domains this year where I've lost a few dollars, all the others have been a profit - it's better than gambling on football games on bet365!

Yep, that's the main mistake most new domainers make, unfortunately. Until you sell some domains and get a real feel of the market, you can never really know for sure what's worth what. Unless of course you can afford to hold the names for many years, and never need to sell unless you get much higher offers.

new in the domain selling business, but i'm very optimistic.

bizmansion.com will sell at a good price!

Both. But over the years I got a few really good buys here. Flip them out of NP for more. Really good bargains here.

Agree. When we first start out, we don't understand the value of the domains and just go with the hype. We don't have vision and don't consider end-user psychology. Worst mistake I've made is letting go valuable domain names for the sake of a quick flip, if I had a bit more patience back then and held on to the few for a few years the profit would have been substantial. But there is a learning curve so we live and learn.

I'm the same, not a bag holder, nothing wrong with that strategy at all. There is no one size fits all mentality.

Its no different to comparing day traders who short and long stocks for like an hour, as opposed to seed investors who are willing to wait 10 years for a startup to reach IPO.

I will admit that in recent years sales $500+ seem to be on the decline.

My view on this is that a lot of sales occur between domainers and the launch of hundreds of new TLDs has drained the resources of investors who might otherwise have purchased aftermarket domains in already existing extensions.

Agreed. I have seen a noticeable decline in the sales of my .com domains in the past year and a tremendous decline in 2016. The new gTLDs are having a significant effect in .com sales imo.

I have read lots of complaints in various NP threads that end users refuse to pay realistic prices for better domains. They just buy a cheap alternative.

Few of those businesses will succeed to the point they are willing to pay up for the dot com. Thus more and more customers will be visiting non dot com sites.

I would suggest the lock domainers have on the best domains will drive increased use of cheap domains by actual end users. This will in turn get customers used to alternate TLD's and eventually narrow the price range between TLD's in the aftermarket.
