Saw that after 6 years GoDaddy is selling .cn again. Obviously the boom in Chinese investment and the now easy registration process, and inexpensive reg fees have been major factors.

Registration simply needs a copy of an ID with the registrant name exactly matching the whois. Alternatively you could use other registrars that provide a proxy service such as NiceNic.net ,Dynadot.com China service etc.

There have been some good sales of .cn over the last year so perhaps another of the next big things! B-)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I'd be a little worried the chinese govt could put the brakes on it again. At least with other extensions you aren't pigeon holed into their .cn market. If things are open and the govt isn't getting in everyones business, then it might have a chance.

Depends on the registrar, I know Nicenic.net are doing $5 transfers at the moment. Dynadot renewals around $8.99.

I reg .cn at dynadot, no need for any ID. Only need ID to change nameserver.

You might just as well email them a copy of the ID after you register then you can "point" the name wherever?

you mean forward? I forward .cn domains, just can't change nameserver! (like build a website, but you can forward them to a website) I do it anyways, no1 stole my domain or told me I couldn't yet. You probably could even build a website without ID as long as you use dynadot hosting

As I said, keep ALL your options open and send a copy of ID, very simple.

I registered some through DynaDot last year as well. The process was pretty simple and painless, but I'm not surprised to see GoDaddy make this move. Next thing you know they'll be wanting to do commercials in China, lol :)

not to sound paranoid but i'd probably rather give my .cn domains away before scanning my photo id and send it all around the world to who knows how many people for who knows what to happen.

I would say paranoid. :D

Think about how many people / companies already have a copy of your id.

Anyway, your choice.

Thank you, wot, for the positive recommendation! It's an honor!

I am glad to see that GD made a wise choice and re-started to offer .CN domain name, obviously GD saw the trend as well.

Kind regards,
Helen

Hi hollywood,

Thank you for your patience, sorry for the inconvenience.

If possible, would you mind PMing me your location, so I can have our tech team take an investigation?

Sincerely,
Helen

Yeah I get what you mean mate... I thing some clever Chinese sounds and N combo's might be worth looking into... just for example like "Fa, meaning wealth or fortune" and 8... so like Fa8.cn - now off course thats an obvious one and chances are it's already taken... but i'm just playing with ideas here... :)

Helen at Nicenic.net has offered you VIP tier without having to make prepayment to get to VIP Reseller tier.

Apparently as I mentioned Nicenic.net, and if I make the recommendation (I have used them for sometime, but no financial incentives for recommendations) that is the only criteria.

Just pm me with your email address if you want to take advantage. $5.50 for .cn registrations, I think GD are $7?

This may apply to others but I am currently waiting for a reply from them.

Apparently this will apply to anyone I recommend for a short time only so if you want a VIP account at NiceNic.net pm me with your name and email address.

English website and good English speakers writers and they will help you with Chinese translation.

I wonder if Godaddy will be the same, here on Namepros I auctioned a .cn name and when the winner gave me his Dynadot details I was unable to push into his account due the fact he had not supplied the necessary paperwork, yet I was able to hand register the name without supplying any paperwork. Will we be able to transfer .cn names at Godaddy ??

It will be the same as GoDaddy as at Dynadot I would think.
Provided the "buyer" has submitted a copy of id and the whois matches then there is no problem at all in transferring .cn, quite a simple and logical process.
