Where newbies normally err most is registering a bunch of domains which are available. Domain registration has been around for more than 20 years so unregistered domains in 2016 are not likely to be worth much. On the other hand, sometimes you will find unique situations where a domain was registered ten, twelve or fifteen years ago and was renewed for many years as the registrant saw value in that name. Each renewal cycle gives a registrant an opportunity to reevaluate whether that name is worth renewing. So after five years, the quality of a domain portfolio improves (less junk). So if you filter aged expiring domain lists sometimes you can find some gems (but expiring domain lists are still mostly junk). The best domains are already in the hands of other domain investors so that is your best source for quality domains if you can work out deals with domain investors looking for liquidity.

Definitely @garptrader you have a point, the quality domains can be bought from fellow domainers, or expiring domains etc etc etc.

Hi, @Iss Meftah Welcome to Namepros, I would also suggest you to keep calm, study the industry for a while, and then start investing accordingly at your own risk & reward assessments. If you take a look at General Domains Discussions at Namepros, you will find hundreds of threads, about how to start investing in domain names, what are the quality factors of domain names.....and so on.

All the Best.

QUOTE]

Don't overlook future trend domains. Internet of Things IoT drones Artificial intelligence Virtual reality are just a few future trends where select brand domains might have demand therefore value down the road. CAUTION: future trend is not a flipping type domain investment they are a Buy and Hold investment that while risky, may pay huge dividends for patient investors

The whole subject of this forum is based on the information you seek. As many other newbies before you have been advised - read the forum to learn. Everything you need to know is here somewhere in the threads of this forum.

The best advice is to read, then read some more. When you are finished with that - read some more. Get the picture?

Don't make the mistake many new domainers have made and spend a fortune on junk domains before you understand what makes a domain valuable.

1)It must be .com 2)You need to know what you need 3)You need to know at least 5 similar domain sales price range 4)You need to buy similar domains from the owners cheaper than you saw in sales reports 5)You need to wait at least few years to have good ROI.
PS: Perfectly to have funds at start, at least $200k.

Depends on if you are planning to sell it or develop it. I would probably develop that domain name. In my opinion, you could monetize that domain name easily. Then, even if you do want to sell, it becomes many times more valuable.

Definitely develop is my opinion!

And then of course there are those domainers with vested interest in protecting their interests aka their domains who will poo poo on newbie domains brand new registrations in 2016 because giving such newbies confidence will dilute their own assets which they have held on too for 5-10 years. So whatever their advice to you positive or negative needs to be taken with a big pile of salt! lol

ask yourself something. would it benefit a domainer giving you advice that your brand new reg is SUPER GREAT? and in effect diluting their domains? remember the more NEW domains out there equals More choices for all potential buyers right?

so the best situation for experienced domainers is to make sure there's LESS SUPPLY (from brand new regs) to create MORE DEMAND for their own inventory of which they heavily invested in.

Bottomline? A buyer will buy what a buyer wants. There are many historical sales that will show a domain registered less than a year and sold for Thousands. Case in Point alot of VR domains, and Geographic location domains that for some reason no one has registered.

Best advice? Trust YOURSELF. Period. Too much negativity on forums such as this where people just poo poo on your dreams because the less domainers out there the less competition for them.

Also on the flipside. Don't listen to someone who is "too too" helpful or positive about your choice in domains because that could also be a way to make you go bankrupt also. effectively getting you out of the game.

again Trust yourself. Period.

Yes, I am still on the fence about what to do with it. I am not sure how it was originally bought but I have the opportunity to do something with it now. I am a web developer which will make it easier to get something live but I think it might be better to just sell to the highest bidder and work on other pet projects that I have been trying to get off the ground. Thanks for your note and any insight would help, I just started delving in the domaining world.

Sounds like you've decided it would be best to sell it. That being the case, you can list it in the Appraisal section to get some opinions on the value. It will help you. But you will have to decide how to price your domain.

Thanks for the note Silentptnr, I just started exploring monetization options so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I tried setting up Google AdSense but did not get approved for some reason (I wish they told you the exact reason)

''What makes domains worth higher value?''

Beside 'DEMAND' of course, one answer is 'GOOD MARKETING'.

Probably because the domain name implies that copyrighted material might be made available for free. I would maybe build the site first, then apply for Adsense. Could also be that because there is no site up, they didn't want to approve.

I would get the site up first. Decide what you want the site to do, then monetize. You can't really monetize until you have some content to monetize.

geez just contact some of the top porn sites like Vivid or heck just contact thee owner of P*rno dotcom who dropped millions on it and call it a day partner! or perhaps wait till January. go the next AVN convention you will see them all there just wear a tshirt with FREEMoVIE.com for sale on it and I'm sure it will get sold easy. Good luck! I wish I had such a domain. or try to sell it over at the next Chinese domain auction in Macau this year in Sept. The Chinese seem to be getting "soft" on buying Western Chips like Banana.com or House.com. Whatever you do don't ever ask for a broker's help. you'll just look a huge chunk of your pie. Do it yourself Chief! Good luck and let us all know how it goes! lol

or hate to be a negative nancy but did you check on FREEMOVIE.com's history? I hope (but there's a good chance ) it was never used for one of those sites that gives you a Blue Screen that you can't get out of and installs a Virus on your pc. I think Google will red flag a domain for that and that's pretty hard to escape that. blacklist. That would really suck!

Thanks for the advice! I sent some emails out to Pornhub Network, will need to continue looking down that route. Appreciate everyones advice so far (especially the broker part wasn't quite sure about them), I really need to get moving on this ASAP.

umm there doesn't NEED to be on the site EVER but it could have at one point been redirected to some phishing site or whatever will give that blue screen. ask anyone here on NP how to figure out if your domain's been blacklisted by Google. I'm sure someone here will know.
