Basically I just want to know how parking companies work?

Often times we ask which parking companies are the best etc... But How do these companies legally just make a page with only ads?

Is this something I can do? Create my own parking company and park my own domains and cut out the middle man? Is this possible?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Sure, it's called Adsense. Of if you want to sell ads, you can sell them and put up links all day. I doubt you will make any money at it if that's all you do.

Unless you have a huge portfolio to cover all the costs or some good standing Corp to finance Auto-optimization software, designer work, security and many more, I dont see a point in making your own parking company.

Just as @decades80 said,
there's far more to it than setting up a page with ads and most importantly think *who* gives those ads to the parking companies and *why* they should trust giving those ads to you

I'm not looking to run a parking company(that was just a side thought). I know google doesn't allow you to just have one page with just ads and no info whatsoever, so I wanted to know how these companies work? How can they just throw up throw up thousands of pages with nothing but ads?

Maybe the question is crazy to ask but the answers so far are far from what I'm asking. Atleast not the core question.

Maybe the question you want answers to is not the right one? They are a business. They setup their servers and started soliciting domains. It's not that complicated and you can do it too. But you will need a lot of money to get the infrastructure, employees and build the system.

Well ofcourse there is far more, which is why i am asking. I'm not looking to start a parking company, that's like a side thought. Google doesn't allow us to just throw ads on a page alone so what's the idea behind these parking companies to do this legally?

I think we all know what you're asking, is just that your question can only be answered 100% by someone that has indeed access to huge amounts of traffic. I believe someone needs to have such amounts to even be considered starting a parking company thus knowing the *how's* you're asking.

beside that, all we can do is answer all we know on the subject, ie. minimal stuff

Yeah, maybe I'm not asking the right question. I'm not trying to do it unless it's realistic. My main question is how can they throw up a page with nothing but ads? Google says it's not allowed... Is it a loophole to legally doing it.

My question is more of ethics? "legal"-- not so much infrastructure, traffic etc... I'll do a quick google search...
thnx

If you want to start a parking company you'll have to apply @ Google for a parking ads account. You need to own/manage a few thousands domains if I remember well. Once you get accepted you should be able to serve Adsense Parking ads from Google Ad Network.

You are making the assumption (I think) that a parking page is reliant on Google searches. You are right that Google doesn't look favorably on pages with all ads and no content. Put parking doesn't rely on Google searches. It relies on old backlinks, typos and type -in traffic. Hence, what Google allows and doesn't allow is of no relevance when looking at parking.

It's not "ordinary" Adsense, it's Google's parking feed. Parking companies partner with one or more feed providers. Although it is part of the Adwords / Adsense system, there are different rules, terms and conditions for publishers using the parking feed.

Btw, advertisers can, and often do, opt out of having their ads on parked pages.

So the answer is:

Parking companies have individual contracts
With google and other search engines
And traffic monetizing solutions

Those contracts may be done only
When a certain amount of
High
Traffic volum
From more or less trusted sources can be provided

I will try to provide a clear explanation here.
As said above, parking companies don't use ordinary Adsense, the get a 'feed' straight from Google (or Yahoo etc). Their job is to serve optimized advertizing to the visitor based on countless factors. They do the same job as Google, but in a different context and with their own experience and know-how...

However there is a clear distinction between Adsense and parking. When you put Adsense on a developed domain name with contents you are allowed to promote your site, do SEO, but you can't do that for parked domains. The expectations is that parked names will get visits through type-in and some residual traffic (old backlinks).
You may not 'promote' parked domains, and they are pretty much filtered out in search engine results.

Basically you have to choose between two different monetization models with different rules.

Let's see if I can answer this one. I seem to own a parking company. :)

Basically there are two large feed providers today, Yahoo and Google. I'm not sure why Bing isn't involved as well, since Yahoo gets a little more than 50% of their ads from Bing, but that's another discussion.

Yahoo has never directly had a parking company inhouse, but Google has and shut it down a few years ago. Basically they didn't like to deal with the customers.

Parking companies are basically the middle men for the ad providers, because they don't want to deal with the customers. If you only knew all of the stuff we put up with on a daily basis. Let's me give you a few examples from yesterday:
1. I know I used a fake paypal account to get paid, but here is my real one.
2. Why is my domain in a conflict? Is this like a domain war? Should I call my attorney? I'm really confused.
3. Why were my 10 clicks filtered? It wasn't me who clicked on them it was my daughter. You said I couldn't click on my domains, so I asked my family to click on them.
4. "I appreciate your time and detailed explanation, you've have succeeded in creating a three dimensional view with clarity in referring and referencing functions of compartmentalization appropriations in all understanding of all three parties that has become jointly to the 1st party to the third part."

Yes, #4 was actually part of a message that was sent to us. We get things like this everyday.

So how are we legally able to show ads from Yahoo/Google on a customers domain? We have contracts that allow us to do it. And if you read the Yahoo/Google TOS it says that they are allowed to show ads on third party partners. We don't have the same adsense feed or yahoo version of adsense feed that a normal person can signup for, these are domain parking feeds.

What does it cost to run a parking company? There are some parking companies with 3 employees, some with 10 employees and some with hundreds.

I've not heard of either Yahoo or Google giving out a feed in more than 3 years.

What does it take to get a feed from either Yahoo or Google? I talked to somebody a few months ago who tried to get one and they had more than 100,000 domains in their portfolio and they were told that the volume of traffic wasn't large enough.

It's funny when people talk about starting their own parking company, the amount of money involved to start up is insane. And your profit margin isn't as high as you would think it is.

Think about it this way, let's pretend there is only two car companies in the city you live in. There are 10 dealerships, who sell cars from company A, and 3 who sell from company B. Company A beats Company B in 80% of the cases, which is why there are more dealerships selling company A's cars. But they all have the same exact cars, same colors, same models, why would you choose one dealer over the other? It's the sales people, the customer service, the maintenance program, etc... To get more customers one dealer starts selling their cars at cost, but charges more for the warranty, so then all of the other dealers have to do something similar or risk going out of business. When you are selling the same car, you have to do something that makes you stand out, but in the end I promise you that as a customer you are doing very well because of the competition.

@Donny summed it up perfectly....

Google retired their Adsense for domains product back in 2012
https://support.google.com/adsense/...214324692949154-2657737889&ctx=as2&hl=en&rd=1

and unless you had one of those feeds and had enough volume for Google and Yahoo to make money they arent giving out any more feeds.

So to answer your original question. No you cant just start your own parking company anymore. At least not with Google or Yahoo feeds.

In my opinion you have the following options many not realistic

1 start an ad network - sell your own ads on the network then offer a domain feed product to new users with larger portfolios.

2. develop your domains with free tools like tumbler or wordpress and offer ads on those sites.

3. do nothing and just offer a powerful sales page in hopes to sell your domain faster.

Advertisers paying high CPMs really want to see good metrics on the back end meaning great conversions. A sale on their site a sign up etc.

The ad space is rapidly changing....its harder and harder for smaller sites to get affordable advertising.

Much of the ad revenue has really gone to the ad exchanges again something Google controls with Google ad exchange
https://www.doubleclickbygoogle.com/solutions/digital-marketing/ad-exchange/

its a real time bidding system that allows publishers to offer their unsold impression inventory on a auction based bidding system. So a site like people.com gets about 1 billion page views a month. If they only sell half or 500 million at full CPM rate of $10 CPM they can offer the other 50% of unsold inventory on the exchange at a discount to the highest bidder. the highest bidder may only pay $2 a CPM (compared with their full rate of $10) for that traffic but thats better than running house ads or public service ads for free.

All roads lead to Google for a couple reasons.
1. advertisers trust them to filter all the bad sites (sites with malware or hateful messages ) and bad traffic (fraud clicks like that guys daughter clicking on his ads) and
2. publishers trust them to pay on time or at all.

We have contacted over a dozen networks to work with the impressions we offer ( Our users are now gernerating hundreds of thousands of impressions each month with our instant content development) with our news pages and one of the networks we just completed a test with offered a 1 cent CPM (yes $0.01 CPM) and did not reply to any requests for payment. The good thing about the major parking companies is when you actually do reach their payout limit they do pay you. Active owners like @Donny from Voodoo are key to adding trust to the industry.
