discuss Have new TLDs affected the .COM aftermarket?

From your personal experience, have you seen fewer aftermarket .COM sales from your personal portfolio than was the case three to five years ago (pre new TLD)? Or perhaps you have seen certain types of .COM domains i.e. three words that do not get as much interest? I am not talking about numeric or LL/LLL .COM domains - just two and three-word brandables or two-word.COM domains with only modest search volume.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Experienced investor/domainer as usual buys only .com. But newbies know much more, and as result we see some sales stats for new tlds..

I don't know how many end users even know/care about those new extensions...

If you sell to end users only, nothing changed.

Yes. The sales are down for .coms and lower offers than before. Killer Premiums are not affected. Everything else is down.

It might have affected domainer to domainer sales on forums like this. All the money being poured into new gtlds, would have been poured elsewhere. But I think it has also helped. All the money being poured into second rate extensions, that could have easily been buying good domains in the Aftermarket. In a way I kind of like them because it keeps newbie domainers off of Namejet bidding up .com.

Now if you look at the last 6 years reported sales of DN Journal, I look at the 100th reported sale, you see it was steadily going down, then started going back up again in 2014, when new gtlds first started coming out.

$81,000 - 2010
$74,333 - 2011
$65,000 - 2012
$55,000 - 2013
$64,499 - 2014 - going back up, 0 new gltds
$78,500 - 2015

And those are mostly .com sales. Confusion, one big cluster f**k, just leads people back home.

So no, I don't think it has affected .com end user sales just because on some of the stuff I posted elsewhere. 99%+ of top 500 internet merchants are on .com. Most new startups still go to .com. People still see .com all day long, even the youth new gltders like to bring up. Serious businesses understand it's just easier with a .com. It's not something they'll ever have to explain to people.

In my opinion, 2 and 3-word brandables are increasing in value. It's simply masked by the CHIP madness.

I am getting fewer offers, but fewer lowballs too - so it all balances out ;)
YMMV of course.
I don't know if buyers are becoming more educated, or are they disillusioned after seeing the crazy 'premium' prices on new extensions, leading people back home like JB says.
Maybe I should say thank you registries for diverting end users to us, keep up the good work

GTLDs can only increase .com value

True. Because of this shi**y new tlds .net, and other old extensions value gone down and .com become definitely lonely king.

Each portfolio is unique but I have seen a steady decline of sales $500+ in recent years. Perhaps some of that was due to Google's search engine algorithm changes which lessened the value of exact match domains. However, it is fact that many domain sales are between domainers. Historically many of my sales were my lower-quality domains which were nothing special but just priced low $XXX instead of high $XXX or low $XXXX. Oftentimes those low $XXX sales .COM and .Net were to other domainers or developers who wanted a decent domain for a project - without spending too much upfront. Now these low-end buyers have MANY MANY options and the millions of new TLD registrations have siphoned off spending on lower-quality .COMs and .Nets. Just my view.

Xyz, leading gtld, passes 2.5 million for the first time in 2 years. It's amazing expansion. I think it affects .org, .info .biz at marketplace. Sooner or later .xyz will be about 7 million when Ngtlds pass 50 million. Then it will affect .com and .net or formerly.

Ngtlds are not known to the public at present and EndUser is rare. I know a few .xyz sites. But everything depends on time. Future is not fixed but fluid. Chinese collect domain names as a monster. It's never been done before and most people still not totally sure what's happening. I bet new wave.

According to law of supply and demand Dot com's value will be slow down.

Except it hasn't. But new gltds, so much supply and even more coming but demand? And you're actually making a case for .com.

I am not understood perfectly. I am poor at english. I have .xyz domains over 300 and .com over 20.

As long as you know what you are doing, nothing is wrong. Good luck.

I am hoping that your namepros joining date is not your date of entrance into domaining industry.

I began to collect .xyz domains when Google launched abc.xyz in the mid of august. I had picked up some premium domains.

According to law of supply and demand Dot com's value will be slow down.

The supply of domains has always been nearly infinite.

The supply of domain extensions has now been increased - but not in response to any identified end-user demand.
