Well the .WS registry has been in the news this week for releasing all 5N to 20N combinations last night, and 2 and 3 character .ws will be available later in Feb with new pricing scheme.

.WS registry also has a presence on NP now:

Obviously the China story may be creating a new market for short .WS domains. ALL of the NNNN.ws were bought out over three days this past December according to thedomains.com blog.

I registered some 5N.ws last night when they were released, anyone else stepping into .WS now?

I see there's an interest in 5N among Chinese (e.g. yesterday - 23335.ws, 92226.ws) so I think we might have a buyout eventually.
I wonder if .ws registry is doing any additional promotion of their extension in China - reaching out to potential investors etc...

Looks like Godaddy has bumped back up the price of .ws regs, it's double today what I was paying yesterday. Glad I did some regs recently.

Also .mobi and .xyz reg fee is bumped back up today.

.mobi reg price has bumped up on Namecheap too, but .xyz and .club are still cheap. Funny games they play.

Still $4.99 at RC, and they were $4.99 January and Dec also, wait and see if they reup the promo for March

The games irritate me to no end - I like promos that are straightforward, with set end dates, so I can plan accordingly and I don't feel panic to reg now, but that's proly why they do it.

How long do you think LLL.ws will have to wait to gain traction to even break even on the initial reg fee?

Looking at 3L.co, it took a while to get up to the $600+ mark, which is what they will cost. In order to see the returns on 3L.ws that were seen in .co, you'd have to wait for a $1000+ floor price. With .co being the highest traded 3L.ccTLD and .me being a far second at ~200... it seems like the real winner here is the registry (unless a long-term hold).

$600 for UQF.ws, or even RKQ.ws, doesn't seem like it could happen in the context of other more established extensions' (like .me) much lower price.

Hmm it'll be interesting to see this unfold and I guess it's a good way to see if they're worth what they think. My gut says the NN/LL will get gobbled up pretty quickly and probably most of the NNN/LLL too. I also see a fair bit of profit in them 'down the track'. A bit rich for my tastes though so grabbed a few 4n/5n to sit on for a bit. GL to anyone looking to get some

Price for LL and LLL.ws is way too high to make them good investment (for domainers)
I would buy my initials (3L) for around $100-200 but $600 is too much for a domain I probably wouldn't even use.

I recall I had registered one really good .ws domain many, many years ago. I can't even remember which domain name registration company I had used and more than likely it has expired.

That just goes to show you that what once isn't popular can become a hit.

Probably that WS can stand for Web Site. That was always the case but the market has changed in the past year, compared to the 15 years before that. And these domains were never available before, if they had been at regular pricing you can be sure they'd all be registered long ago.

Also .ws is available at most main registrars, and you can push it between accounts at Godaddy.

The $1k up front registration isn't so bad for those in the market of short domains, if the renewals drop to $xx per year after that. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the market says.

That's because GoDaddy isn't a 2/3 char supported registrar. See: http://website.ws/registrars.dhtml

Dynadot pricing is screwy, but 101 reflects with the $600.
