Hi everyone.

Just interested to hear if anyone has had any experience of software you can buy for drop catching. With drop catchers all allowing multiple back orders and then going to auction, it makes sense to buy the software if it works ? The cost is around $200 which is a good investment if it catches a few good domains. Maybe it's worth buying a few different software packages to stand a better chance of catching a good domain ?

Any thoughts please ?

Best,
Paul

Can schedulers be reset. After setting a time for a letter, clicking that letter does not bring up the window again. Maybe I am missing something, but can we change or reset a schedule once it is set under a particular letter?

Never mind. I just found the reset under the settings. Please disregard. Thanks.

FPForum -

Getting error messages what do they mean?

1 - xxxxxxxx.com UNKNOWN ERROR ..via DynaDot

The one below is self explanatory, I know.

2 - xxxxxxxx.com INSUFFICIENT FUNDS ..via NameSilo

I have a credit card set up to make purchases and I got the above error message.

I know this is a NameSilo question, but I thought you might know - Do I actually have to prefund the API account somehow?

I can't find anywhere in the NameSilo interface that addresses this or gives the option for it.

Also - When setting the scheduler, how long should I set it to run for?

When the .com's and the.net's drop, is it safe to assume that someone will catch them pretty quickly or do I have to let the scheduler run for the full drop time window which I believe is about an hour or so?

DynaDot may be an IP address issue?

NameSilo; you do need to prefund. I had to contact their support about this first time round.

Thanks responding @JRayers! @Cdomains and I have already worked this out via PM. You're exactly right about the DynaDot key - it was wrong. Also, for NameSilo you must deposit funds as they can't do direct credit card processing during the drop. By the time your card gets processed someone else will have the domain :)

I can't seem to find the answer to this question, so maybe you can answer. With the NameSilo prefunded account - does NameSilo automatically add funds to your prefunded account when you are low? Do they give you the option, or once you prefund do they keep using your payment method to keep you prefunded?

I haven't prefunded my account yet because I do not want them to continually top-up my prefunded account with out asking.

I have not found the answer to this on their website and I thought I would ask here before contacting them for the answer.

I just found this-

Automatic Replenishment

You never need to worry about running out of account funds with our automatic replenishment program. All you need to do is to set your minimum threshold and replenishment amount, and once your balance goes below your threshold we will automatically add funds to your account!

Does anyone know if you can turn off automatic replenishment and just add funds as needed or do they require you to set a minimum?

Can you opt out of the prefunded account once you start it if you change your mind? In other words, can you turn it off if you don't want it anymore?

@Cdomains I pre-fund my NameSilo accounts with PayPal. And I always uncheck the box that (I think) tries to opt you in to automatic funding. So far, NameSilo has never automatically re-filled my pre-fund. But you've got to be careful because I think they try to sneakily opt you in with that default "checked" box when paying with Paypal.

I've never had a problem with automatic re-fills through NameSilo. I never tick any option but I'm trying to think if I have done that sometime in the past...

Thanks,

I just don't want my card to be charged without my knowledge or pre-approval. I think anybody would feel the same way. I don't want to opt-in and be stuck with automatic charges on my card. If no one has the answer I guess I will have to contact NameSilo and ask.

Was NameSilo able to assist you Cdomains?

Actually, I never contacted them, I just went ahead and funded the account. For anyone who is interested, you have the option, inside the account, to decide if you want to have the account automatically topped up.

That sneaky little pre-ticked opt-in box was recently removed:) Now it’s just a regular paypal button.

Couple of questions:
  • In my log, every few hundred/thousand entries one of the letters seems to move up/down a row. Are you aware of a bug like this? eg. Running orders for 'domaina.com' 'domainb.com', log looks like:
    domain.com NOT AVAILABLE ...
    adomainb.com NOT AVAILABLE ...
Extension is .CO if that helps. Fortunately it doesn't seem to place an order for 'adomainb.com' even though I can see by manual search that it is available. Just seems to be a logging error. Can send my log for reference?
  • Do you know of a backorder service that connects with XZ.com? I'm getting smashed at the moment by one individual buyer through XZ.com.

I have missed several to same buyer as well, very annoying. Can you tell if xz.com has in house backorder? It looks like they do, you have to be logged in to place it though, so I can't tell the price.

ETA: yes found the backorder site, somewhat in English http://www.kqw.com/domain/delete
still can't figure out cost

@FPForum sent you a PM : smile :

@JRayers - Thanks for questions! Regarding your first, this isn't a bug. It actually happens because there are a number of responses coming back and trying to post into the log at the same time. Although the requests are being sent with the full domain, if you have 2 responses trying to post in the log at the same time part of one may dip down into the other. This won't have any effect on the request itself or the domain being sent, though.

Regarding your second question, XZ appears to be connected to MAFF who owns a number of different registrars. The backorder service behind that would most likely be DomainMonster's backorder service since that's also owned by MAFF. Keep in mind, their backorder service is just like Name.com in that they don't do auctions. Instead, each domain is limited to one backorder max. You can read more here: http://www.domainmonster.com/backorder/

@usernamex - I've replied to your PM :)

Hey Nat. This would mean the software was unable to establish a connection to DynaDot's server. It would only come from two things, either a temporary drop in your internet or a DynaDot's server being temporarily unavailable. If you were seeing responses coming back from other registrars at the same time then it was likely on DynaDot's end and not yours. Hope this helps :)

DesktopCatcher is awesome and fun. @FPForum provides phenomenal customer support. It is so good, I almost didn't want to write anything about it to keep the competition down!

There is some effort in getting reseller accounts setup initially, but the guidelines are clear and complete
http://www.desktopcatcher.com/category/program-help/
And I chose to get more accounts to increase my odds, not required

Now if only I had unlimited funding . . .

phenomenal customer support

I agree. Always goes out of his way to help you. He will answer all your questions and give you all the help you need, but you wouldn't know it by looking at this thread because he gives awesome support via PM.

The software is really good, but the competition is quite fierce for the good names, so don't expect to catch the really awesome names with this software.

This is not the fault of the software, just an indication of how competitive it is for really good names.

Thanks for the kind words @Cdomains and @usernamex! I try to be as helpful as possible :)

As Cdomains has mentioned, I wouldn't advise people to chase 4L.com's (or even 4L.net chips) these days as that type of stuff won't be catchable outside of backorders. But, there is still plenty of goodies out there to grab and a number of users made a hefty profit last year when they were grabbing 4L.net chips at reg fee and then flipping them for low-mid $XXX within just a couple of months. The same has happened with 3L.in, 4N.co, and 3L.co domains as well. Depending what you're looking for (short domains, SEO domains, brandable domains, keyword domains..etc) - There are still plenty of great opportunities out there and it shouldn't be too hard to make your investment back.

I confirm: support is just incredible. Assuming i'm not the only Andrew's client that asking a lot of questions, i wonder how he finds time to these expanded answers and still has time to develop the soft and also of course for his own business. Wonderful!
